'Jolly Roger' tells the story of an Old Man's self re-discovery with the help of an unlikely friend and a bit of imagination.

I wrote the first draft of the script early last year, after finishing a huge chapter of my life, my childhood. The film explores the innocence in youth but also the maturity in those who have encountered a lot at such a young age. It also reflects on the young at heart, the ones who have lived a little longer on this earth. 'Jolly Roger' adventures into the imagination of a child via the eyes of a grown up.

Stylistically I am wanting to exhibit the raw and harsh Australian environment; heavy sun, the native animals and plants and the dry, dusty land. This is so amazingly unique to the country and I would love to proudly showcase it globally.

This new film of mine features a small cast with big imaginations including the amazing John Flauss as the Old Man, our spark of energy Cleo Philips as the Girl and all-round awesome Ben McNamara as the Dad. The film is Produced by the wonderful team at Crankyfish Productions, lead by Julian V Costanzo and I, Kaiya Jones have written and will direct.

We have an amazing bunch of people who have generously given their time, passion and creativity for free and therefore we would love to sustain them whilst filming. Your contribution will go towards catering the cast and crew each day on set, will assist in the hire of camera and lighting equipment needed for the shoot and props and costumes required.

I always seek challenges, wherever I go, whatever I do, I always look to be challenged. Why? Because it feels so unbelievably amazing to overcome a challenge, to have tackled it and to come out the other side having achieved or learnt something.
My first professional short film I created a big challenge, a challenge they said never to do....work with kids, family members AND animals. To add to this we also shot in the ocean in the middle of winter. It was a crazy three days but we powered through and completed a beautiful little film that I am so very proud of. From this experience I've learnt....apparently nothing, as AGAIN I am shooting with kids, animals and in the ocean. This time however I will not be acting in it which means 100% focus on directing and having worked with kids before I have learnt the best ways to get the most authentic performance from them and how to do that within the time restraints. It is a challenge I very much look forward to facing. It is sure to be another crazy but wonderful experience. -Kaiya
