In Deep Water is going to the Underbelly Arts Lab and Festival 2013

In July 2013, Light Artist Katie Sfetkidis will be packing her jelly fish light sculptures and heading off to Cockatoo Island to develop her new performance installation, In Deep Water as part of Underbelly Arts Festival. In the past few months I have been busily developing a number of prototypes and it is now time to give them a home.

As part of Underbelly I've been selected to take part in a matched crowd funding initiative where every dollar raised up to our target will be matched by the Keir Foundation, which means that every dollar you give to the project is doubled. Check out the other Underbelly Arts projects you can also double your support for here.

A bit more about the work:
Based on shapes and forms of deep sea bioluminescent creatures the work will give audience members the opportunity to get up close and personal with these mysterious light beings without having to get wet.  Over the two weeks of the Lab, Katie will be creating a sensory environment  for her sculptures and developing the interactive components of the work.  In the final weekend, the Lab will be open to the public and you the audience members will get an opportunity to come and try them out yourself.

What is the Money for?
The total cost of this project is $10, 000. A lot of this support is coming from Underbelly Arts Festival but the project is still a little bit short.

Double the bang for your Buck!
If  I make the target , as an added bonus the amazing people at The Keir Foundation have agreed to match  the contribution made by you wonderful supporters.  Meaning our $1500 will actually turn into $3000.

The money I raise through Pozible will help go towards the following:
- Travel costs - $1000  (flights and accommodation to travel from Melbourne to Sydney)
- Equipment - $2000 ( this money will go towards Lighting and Sound costs associated with building the performance on Cockatoo Island. It will also go towards helping buy some special pieces of technology to make the interactive component work)

About the Project

In Deep Water is new performance installation piece about bioluminescence in the deep sea by Melbourne light artist Katie Sfetkidis. It will premiere as part of Theatre Works Encounter(s) Festival in 2014.

About Underbelly Arts
Underbelly Arts exists to uncover Australia’s next great artists. Since 2007 the Underbelly Arts Lab has provided opportunities for more than 600 artists to develop and create in a unique and supported environment where, over two weeks, audiences are invited to watch art unfold and take part in the process. In 2013 Underbelly Arts is once again taking over Cockatoo Island and giving artists the chance to create and respond in one of Australia’s magnificent settings. These works will then be showcased as part of the Underbelly Arts Festival, a two-day art party that celebrates process, new ideas and the best emerging and experimental artists across Australia. The Underbelly Arts Festival will take place on August 3 & 4.
