Hi friends. We are The Shaolin Afronauts, a 9-piece afrobeat band from Adelaide, Australia and we have just been invited to play at Glastonbury 2014! After six years together, two albums (with a third this June) and
countless shows around the country, this is our first invitation to play a
major international festival and our first performance opportunity outside of
Australia.
As you can imagine, this is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us. We'll be playing on the Silver Hayes stage, which last year hosted acts such as NAS, Disclosure, Hypnotic Brass, Sly & The Family Stone and Rudimental. Being able to accept this offer is a massive step for the band and an amazing opportunity to showcase not only our own original music to the world, but also to represent the Adelaide music scene to a global audience.
It's not in our nature to have our hands out, but it has quickly become apparent to us that to capitalise on this opportunity will require an enormous financial outlay! Since we received the offer to play Glastonbury we have been gigging relentlessly and using our personal savings to raise the funds required but we really do need your help to get us over the line. The costs of touring a 10-person tour party are ridiculous, even though we will be doing it as cheaply as possible, and unfortunately the gig fees we are able to command on our first visit overseas are quite modest.
In order for us to capitalise fully on this opportunity (and not waste the $20K %20 that flights will cost alone) we will also be playing 6 other shows in the UK, Amsterdam, Paris and Madrid. It really is a unique chance for us to showcase South Australian music to the world and one we are incredibly humbled to have been offered!

We wouldn't ask for your support without being completely transparent, so below is an overview breakdown of our current working budget.

Sound Engineer / Tour Manager: $7000
Backline Hire: $600
Publicist: $1500
Total: $44,400
We have managed to finance around two-thirds of the total cost of this project ourselves, but really need to hit a target of $15,000 through this fundraising campaign to make it happen. It's pretty simple, if we can't raise these funds, we can't go! So we will be forever indebted to anyone that helps out.
Drawing on our many years of experience touring and working within the music industry, we have put together a strong business plan so we can fully capitalise on this opportunity and get the best return on our (and your!) investment. Being self managed, the opportunity to network and make some contacts on the ground in Europe is also an exciting prospect.
