Look, I'm not gonna take offence if you don't, but just FYI - I've been playing music since the early noughties and I took a 5 year break to do all those things I just mentioned. Before I was out there making teevee, I was out there making music. 3 albums, an e.p., loads of tours. It became a bit much. I needed a break.

But I'm back now, I've just made my fourth album and I could really use your help paying for the vinyl pressing. In exchange for your money, you get a vinyl pressing! WIN/WIN! Think of it as a pre-order. You can also order other things if vinyl isn't your jam. 

The COOLEST PART of all this is that I have been selected as a CPA Matched Funding recipient, which means if I meet my funding target of $7.5k, Creative Partnerships Australia are gonna match it. I.E. I will end up with $15k!

HERE'S THE COLD HARD TRUTH

Releasing music independently in this day and age is really fucking tough. That's probably why I took 5 years away from it.

I don't have a record label or distributor to cover the upfront costs of pressing records, and as a solo artist (as opposed to a band) - all the costs related to recording, touring, promo, etc are mine alone. I don't split them with anyone.

If I don't raise the money, I'm probably just going to release the album digitally.

This may not sound like that big a deal, but it has a flow on effect, as it means I will have no current stock to sell at gigs, which means I may struggle to pay my band members, which in turn affects my ability to tour the album. 

BUT CROWD-FUNDING IS SO 2012, LAURA

I'm just trying to fund the independent release of my album in a strategic and sustainable manner, and a pre-order campaign like this is the best way for me to do it. I don't wanna end up in a financial deathpit which bums me out so much that I never release music again. Plus - CPA are gonna double my crowdfunding money!
