On the first day I went to prison I met Wez. I was teaching Shakespeare. He was serving a 12-year sentence for violent crimes.
That year, the participants of the Shakespeare Prison Project performed The Comedy of Errors, and Wez’s comic timing as Dromio ‘stole’ the show. The following year he became Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and hilarity ensued.
Now, after spending more than half his life inside, 32-year-old Wez is adjusting to the world outside.
This documentary follows Wez’s hopes and struggles post-release, and the circumstances and choices which shape his life. He’s on the lookout for legal work, but mostly he's doing things he told people he wouldn't do.
Letters Wez wrote from prison and performances of Shakespeare are contrasted with interviews filmed around Ipswich, on the outskirts of Brisbane, in the months following his release.
In Wez’ own words: “The biggest problem I face is recidivism, as prison isn't a deterrent anymore.” His struggle is not only whether he can stay out of prison, but if he can experience a sense of freedom wherever he is.

The Challenges
There are many unpredictable factors in the documentary-making process, however that is partly what keeps it interesting!
While the outcome of this film is as yet unknown, a portion of the footage has been filmed already, which means *something* will make it to screen. The more support we receive, the schmicker the final result will be. The schmicker the film, the more exposure and greater impact it will have!
