Berlin Glass Residency
I have been granted an amazing opportunity: a 2-month residency at public glass studio; Berlin Glas e.V.

Berlin Glas e.V. is a non-profit public access glass studio located in a beautiful old factory complex on the boarder of Wedding, Reinickendorf and Pankow districts, Berlin, Germany.
The residency will coincide with DMY; International Design Festival, where I will have the opportunity to work with the Berlin Glas e.V. team as part of the DMY program!

I am very excited about the significant networking opportunities the timing of the residency will present me with; allowing me to seek out designers, exhibitions and studios.
Glassblowing is a team-orientated profession; to complete any object you require an assistant to aid in the making process. Throughout the residency, I will have the opportunity to work with a number of different people from the Berlin Glas e.V. community. Traveling and working within a different studio always comes with its challenges, but the reward is unmistakably significant, and valuable.
My current arts practice is heavily influenced by traditional Italian glassblowing techniques and the technical proficiency inherent in the process of making.
I draw inspiration from the urban and natural landscape, and strive to bring a handmade element into all aspects of my work; both my functional design-ware and my developing exhibition work.
Over the past four years, I have focused heavily, but not exclusively, on product design and the act of making multiples. Investigating new and intriguing ways to create useful, functional home wares, while utilising the material of molten glass and drawing on techniques that have been used for hundreds of years.

Utilising traditional techniques, in particular, the extensive patterning, delicate line-work and possibilities of cane work, my exhibition work is drawing inspiration from my natural surroundings, looking closely at lines and shapes formed from the flow and movement of water.

This residency will allow me the time to focus and develop new, more evolved work, and take advantage of the culturally rich surroundings Berlin has to offer.
My main focus during this time will be to prototype and develop new design work in blown glass.
Having the chance to travel and be a part of different communities is an important and hugely beneficial aspect to my evolving career as a glass artist. I have a lot to gain from working within the Berlin Glas e. V. community and have been invited to a residency at the Australian National University on my return.
Please have a look at my website to see everything I have been working on, and check out my Facebook page, where I will be posting regular updates of my adventure.
