Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read about my project!
My name is Maggie MacKenzie and I am an abstract painter living and working in Sydney. I am really excited to finally go ahead with my first art exhibition of my abstract paintings. I have already had success with both private and corporate commissions and been searching for the right gallery space for over a year.
The time is now, I have found the space and I am ready to SPILL.
The name of the exhibition, SPILL, is about revealing my inner passions and showing who I am through my paintings. As someone who doesn't give a lot away, this is a challenge! And, being abstract work, nothing is obvious.
My passions are texture, surface pattern and colour. I want the paintings to burst with energy and life, to draw you in and out. Shapes take hold and I use whatever I can find to paint with; my paintbrushes lie alongside expired credit cards and library cards, sponges, forks, set squares and rollers.
The gallery where I am exhibiting is the m2 Gallery located at 450 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, Sydney. It has big white walls ready for big and small abstract paintings!
The exhibition will consist of approximately 25-30 paintings and will run from 5th to 11th March 2014.
So why do I need your help?
The ideas are ready, the hands are poised to create! This is an opportunity to throw myself into my passion and get my paintings out to the world! I have wanted to have an exhibition for a very long time and now that I have found the perfect venue, it is time to make it happen.
The cost of materials in particular is expensive and I would love to work with excellent materials to produce quality paintings.
25-30 canvases ranging from small to large are going to cost approximately $2000.
Paint and materials $1000.
The cost of the m2 Gallery is $800 for the week.
Marketing and promotion costs including exhibition brochure come in at $600.
And administration, catering and transport costs come in at $600.
Grand Total = $5000
I understand that money is tight these days, and I realise that not everybody may be able to contribute funds to my effort - and that's ok! But this doesn't mean that you can't still help out by spreading the word about my cause! Getting the word out to others about my campaign is just as valuable to me as a monetary contribution. Any support is a positive!

The Challenges
My biggest challenge will be painting and storing 25-30 canvases in our little house! Going to be an interesting 5 months!
