Metro Arts is a non-profit organisation developing and presenting ambitious contemporary art..  With 40 years of history behind it, Metro Arts is a hub for independent artists and the community and a launching pad for new artistic ventures.

Metro Arts heritage-listed building is fondly known as the Old Broad. She is a true beauty, filled with character, wit, wisdom, creativity and quirks. All visitors to the Old Broad comment upon the arduous task of climbing the 96 stairs. While tiring or annoying to some, this is a real inclusion barrier to others!

Our elevator is 77 years old and not operational without staff. Just recently, the elevator has started to stall trying to reach the basement and top level of the building. 

It is time to give our lift a lift!

Our fundraising committee ‘Friends of Metro’ have launched an urgent campaign to modernise the lift and deliver access to patrons and artists who are experiencing disability and mobility issues to all five floors of the building.  And it means all of us can enjoy a faster, and less sweaty trip to the top!

The total budget for our lift modernization campaign is $250,000!  We have already raised $51,000 of this.  We have also been successful in gaining matched funding through Creative Partnerships Australia Plus1.  Every $1 will become $2 thanks to CPA, up to $50,000.  So, if we can raise the $50,000, CPA will turn it into $100,000.

We're not kidding ourselves that $250,000 will be an easy target to reach but we're prepared and ready to work hard.  Our Board, our Friends of Metro and our staff have already been working on this project for nearly 6 months.  We have the planning and expertise to make it happen.  With a little helping hand from you....  we can give everyone a lift!
