The Ballad of D11: An illustrated tale for ‘grown-ups’!

The Ballad of D11: An illustrated tale for ‘grown-ups’, is a tribute to the artists, friends and art loving people who are drawn to the artist-led exhibition space, D11@Docklands for different reasons. Some have exhibited there. Some have visited numerous times. And some just seem to come back again and again to partake of the friendly D11 ‘hospitality’ on offer.

In The Ballad of D11, contemporary artist and multi-award winning childrens’ book author and illustrator Tul Suwannakit has captured many of these characters using his delicate line and wash drawings, rendering D11’s cast, crew (and crazies) in his expressive yet gentle style.

Contemporary artist and author Michael Carolan has provided a lyrical homage to these characters, presenting the history of D11 while at the same time tapping into the quirks and eccentricities of the personalities involved.

Both Tul and Michael have had extensive involvement with the gallery and have formed together, in an independent partnership, to present the 'Ballad of D11'. Together, Suwannakit and Carolan have combined to both celebrate and (quietly) subvert the journey of an art space as seen through the eyes of the people that made it successful. You.

The Ballad of D11 will be published by Niche Press in December 2014 and is in its final pre-production phase. The book will be launched in December, 2014  as part of an exhibition event that features all of Tul’s original character drawings on show. People you could find yourself there – in more ways than one!

How The Funds Will Be Used

The Ballad of D11 is in its final pre-production phase. The book will be launched at an exhibition in December 2014 that features Tul’s original character drawings.

The Ballad of D11 is being published by Niche Press using a funding model that actively involves the creators in the success of all publications. All funds raised through Pozible will be used to underwrite the direct printing costs (approximately $2,000) associated with publication of both the softcover edition of the book as well as the limited-edition, Pozible-only cloth bound, hard cover edition.

Any surplus funds will be allocated to offset the gallery hire costs associated with staging the launch exhibition as well as the hospitality on offer for our supporters that will, naturally, accompany the event.
