Marrickville
Bowling and Recreation Club is a community club which was founded in 1905. The
original clubhouse is still standing as part of the now larger club building. The so called "club under the flight path" is seeking funds in order to restore its iconic roof which has several
leaks and is in dire need of repair - as you can see in this photo:

Our Club is an active participant in competitive bowling in NSW, with competitors playing in men's, women's and unbiased bowling tournaments, and representing the Club in the Australian Open championships.

And of course we run barefoot bowls, catering to the broader community of Marrickville and Sydney’s inner west.
The Club has an eclectic range of bowling and social members spanning the generations.

We also host regular music events, including country music on Sundays, Mad Racket dance parties on a regular basis, and other music and community based events. Marrickville is traditionally a working class area which is experiencing a period of growth, with many cafes, restaurants, bars and music venues popping up frequently.

The
Club is in the process of rejuvenation in order to grow with the community. A change of bistro
management and subsequent improvement in the quality of food and service has
seen a marked increase in visitors to the Club, while our new website promotes
the club’s community focus, music and events. The Club provides a family friendly environment, suitable for local mothers group lunches and family get togethers.

Restoration of the Club’s
iconic roof has been quoted at $19,100. We’ve so far raised $13000 via a state
government grant, having gained over 500 signatures on a petition to the
honourable Carmel Tebbutt, who raised the matter in NSW Parliament. We aim to
raise $5000 via our “Raise the Roof” Pozible campaign , asking supporters
to symbolically ‘buy a tile’ to mend and restore the leaky roof. Any
funds raised above the $5000 target will be put towards any unforeseen roof
restoration variation costs and the upgrade of critical Club facilities.
The
Board Members and general membership of the Marrickville Bowling and Recreation
Club are genuinely excited about the task we have set ourselves, and we believe
the Raise the Roof campaign will be successful in not only raising much needed
funds but in enhancing the profile and patronage of our Club in the community.
Club President Ian Sharp has a message to locals and visitors to Marrickville and the Inner West: “We want to keep this as an open space and function area, where bands can perform, bowlers and guests can bowl and locals can enjoy good food, drink, entertainment and sunshine. As a place that’s run by the community, for the community, it depends on the community for support.”.

We aim to begin the roof restoration project as soon as possible, starting with the money we have raised so far, and need the extra funds via Pozible to ensure completion of the project.
