Rachel Razelle

Rachel Razelle and Mattriks are Melbourne-based duo Rachel By The Stream. Performing together since 2013, the duo deliver a high-energy, animated sound that draws from pop, reggae and dance to create something completely unique: “a totally distinctive talent” (ToneDeaf).

Their fierce musical and technical prowess sees them meld the live with the electronic through multi-instrumentation, on-the-fly looping, smooth-cut samples and evocative vocals. An emphasis on song craft coupled with a massive sound and a positive message has set dancefloors and hearts alight.

The pair put out their debut EP in 2013 and toured the festival circuit nationally (EarthFrequency Fest, Rainbow Serpent Fest, Maitreya Arts and Culture, Dragon Dreaming, Daydream) and internationally (Glastonbury, RedFest, Small World, WMF). 2014's single and music video release ‘Reasons To Live’ received national airplay and high praise from across the blogosphere: “100% fresh” (Discobelle). In 2016 the duo went head to head with midi-lovin bass nerds Men Imitating Machines to create 'Crashland' and also put out trip-hop pop number 'Surprises' - both released with innovative music videos. The pair have now finished their debut album 'Situation Positive', and are seeking support to bring this baby home!

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to:

- MASTER the album with Jim Moynihan (Spoonbill) - $2000

- PRESS 500 CD's (Implant Media) - $1300 

We have already independently funded:

- Studio recording of the 10 album tracks (our music studio / Mattriks - engineer/co-producer) 

- Production (Matt Coldrick) of the album tracks

- Three single releases from the album (with remixes and PR campaigns)

- Three video clips for the single releases (Dropbear Digital/self-directed)

- Visuals 

- Artwork / Graphic Design

The RBTS music project is something Mattriks and I decided to devote ourselves fully to in December 2012. Up until that point, I had taught full-time as a High School English teacher and Mattriks worked full-time as a Music Therapist. We were inspired to pursue our dream of making and performing music together. 

In our first year we achieved more than we ever thought possible. Our debut single was a sold out feature show as part of the Darebin Music Feast, we toured our debut EP Smooth Like Butter (funded in part through a successful crowd-funding campaign) across the UK - playing at Glastonbury Festival and being interviewed by the ABC from the festival paddock! We ventured up the East Coast and made deep connections with audiences and other bands at festivals from Victoria to the Daintree. We self-funded mammoth music video projects that brought together artists from a range of creative media, as well as paid for pressing, mastering, publicity campaigns, poster runs, street press ads, radio ads, graphic design, web hosting, photographers, costumes, catering, music gear, lights, flights, visuals, soundies, stage managers and smoke machines! We saved up for a transit van and converted it into a camper to better enable us to tour on a domestic level. Over this time we were writing, recording and producing songs for our debut album and we have created a body of work that we are wholeheartedly proud of.
