Just Launched

HAIR.

It's weird right? It's something we all grow, it plays an important role in our overall body and health and yet I vividly remember being absolutely HORRIFIED about growing pubic and underarm hair! I thought it was weird and gross. I remember begging my mum to let me shave my legs at the age of ten! 

Now as a mum, I see the way that my kids have been treated differently in relation to their hair; particularly Rupert when he had really long hair and was constantly called a girl. People were shocked and almost dismayed to meet a boy with such long hair. It's 2019, why are we still holding on to such strict gender rules around hair; something we all have! 

And so.... after many many conversations, I wrote HAIR; a children's book celebrating all hair, long, short, straight, curly, armpit, leg, colourful  or covered hair. 

But we all know children's books are only as good as their illustrations so that's why I teamed up with Freya Bennett (you may know Freya from the awesome feminist publication Ramona Magazine or her art at The Cinnamon Society) to capture the wondrous diverse world of hair. 

WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR?

HAIR is a 24 page picture book aimed at preschool children (aged 0-5) but can be enjoyed by the whole family. Its colourful characters will leap off the page and into your heart.

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED? 

Our total aim is $4000 (AUD). 

This will be split as follows: 

• Paying our incredible Illustrator Freya x 27 images = $700 
• Paying our amazing Author Kate = $700 
• ISBN & Barcode Registration Fees = $120 
• Printing Costs = $1200 (500 copies) 
• Postage Costs = $500
• Printing/ Collateral = $280
• Pozible Transaction and Service Fees = $500 (estimate based on percentages provided by Pozible) 

If we go over our initial goal, any further money will be invested as follows: 

• Promotion and Admin,
• Production of further progressive children's book titles through Future Feminists, and;
• Back into Freya's work at The Cinnamon Society for business and professional development.
