The Robots Are Coming have been running 3D printing workshops in schools and for the public, in and around Melbourne for the last 18 months or so. One of the most popular aspects of our workshops has been the 3D body scanning that we do. When we started out we were scanning in monochrome, but we were able to move to full colour scanning some time ago.
We have printed most figurines in monochrome to date, but we can now offer full colour 3D printed figurines.
The printers used to make these full colour prints are still crazy expensive, so the prints don't come particularly cheap either. We do them under contract. Once we hit 10 figurines at a time, the price comes down to the point where we can provide them for $145. There is quite a bit of work also in taking the scan and processing the data into the format that the printer can make sense of. We'll take care of all that :)

How The Funds Will Be Used

The Challenges
We've done large orders with our main contractor before and we've shipped dozens of monochrome figurines that we have printed to people who have attended one of our more than 40 workshops, so we are pretty comfortable about the success of the project.
The greatest risk is really data loss, once we've taken the scans. We sometimes have to ask customers to come back for another scan, but only very rarely.

We'll scan an print you out in white ABS plastic and mail it to you. You also get free admission to an introductory workshop on 3D printing and an online version of the colour scan. Includes shipping.

Colour 3D Printed Figure
Attend a 2 hour 3D Printing Workshop, where, in addition to learning a bunch of cool and interesting stuff about 3D printing, you will be 3D scanned on the MkI TRAC Scanner. We'll cast some digital magic back at the studio before 3D printing it in full colour and mailing it out to you. Figurines of adults will be around 12cm tall, at 7:100 scale. You will also receive an online version of the scan, which you can share on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, on your website, etc.
