I have been selected to be part of the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company (SGCNZ YSC). This group of young New Zealanders will be going to London in July, 2012 to study at the Globe Theatre. Our study tour will include training from professional actors and directors, and will culminate in a performance on the Globe Theatre stage. The cost of this project is over NZ$8,800. I want to raise money to help pay this cost.
Selection for this group came after participation in the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival at a regional and then national level (over 5,500 students participating). I have participated in this Festival for the past 5 years and consider myself very fortunate to have had the many opportunities it has offered me to grow as an actor and director.
In the immediate term I need to raise NZ$1,500 to pay the first instalment of my fees to attend by the end of February 2012, but I will still need to raise the rest of the fees (approx. NZ$7000) quite soon.

I am currently organising a fundraising concert for April next year which should help to pay the final part of the fees. The concert will include many fellow students, friends and others who have volunteered their time and energy to help support me.
I am planning to return to my school to help younger students prepare their entries to the regional Shakespeare Festival, and have been asked to give a workshop at another school in Wellington to encourage young people to get involved in Shakespearean theatre. I hope to expand my community work as study commitments allow, and to give whatever time I can to help encourage others like myself to follow their dreams.
We have a Facebook group established already and are using this as a primary means of publicity, and my parents are helping me put together a marketing plan to promote our activities widely in our community.
