Hello there lovely people!

The time has come for my second album to leave the comfort of my mind and enter the world for your ears to feast upon.. or something like that.

Over 6 weeks during February and March I’ve been huddled up in The Hairy Back Marron Studio (only the most beautiful little off grid shipping container music studio around!) in Margaret River, Western Australia with the awesome Dave Mann at the wheel (again). I had the pleasure of working with Dave recording my first album ‘It Is What It Is’ 4 years ago in Broome and we’re super stoked to be sharing with you all my next album ‘The Art of Departing’.

Over the past few years I’ve spent half of my time in The Kimberley’s and the other on the road touring. A few trips between Broome and Margaret River, a lap of the continent in a veggie oil house truck and a spontaneous Indonesian adventure all created the canvases for these stories to be sung.

What I envisaged at the start of the recording and the journey these songs took us on, was somewhat unexpected. This album certainly is different from the first. The continuity of themes running through each of the songs recount the relationships we have in life, with ourselves and with others. They are stories of love, grief and letting go (not all depressing I promise! ha!). 

‘The Art of Departing’ is a perfect mix of soulful folk, blues with a touch of alt country.  You’ll get to hear some pretty sweet backing vocals by the beautiful Tilly Kelleher and Bec Schofield, the original Saltwater Bandit Albert Gray is back bringing the beats, Wil Thomas on electric guitar and Dave Mann offers some epic slide guitar and swirling reverse delays amongst other ornate sounds. 

I am sooooo close to sharing these songs with you all.  Award winning sound engineer James Newhouse (Real 2 Reel) has the tracks in hand and will be mixing and mastering the album in the coming weeks. I’ll be working with more amazing talented friends on the artwork and design of the album, Michelle Troop (Folklore Photography) and Bernadette Trench-Thiedeman (artist extraordinaire).

Here’s how YOU can jump on board and help me get the music to your ears quicker than.. well quicker than I can without YOU! As a self-managed independent musician, (that means I run my own business, I am my own booking agent, manager, promoter, performer and the list goes on..) It can be challenging to have all the upfront costs of making an album, but through crowd funding we can make it happen TOGETHER!

The main challenge getting this new album out into the world is the financial funds. The music is made so it's definately a happening thing. With the help of this crowd funding campaign it means I can get it out there while it's still fresh and hot from the oven (can't have you digesting cold stale bread!).
