Little Saigon market was a much loved part of Footscray: a bustling, diverse place where we come together over something that unites us all - food.

Little Saigon is a place that has been built by members of the local Vietnamese-Australian community, but it was valued by us all.

The Footscray community has been united in its grief over the recent Little Saigon fire and its anxiety for the ~25 small businesses who traded in the market.

The timing of this fire, in the lead up to Christmas and Lunar New Year celebrations, is particularly devastating.

While work is underway to find a temporary home for the traders, this crowdfunding campaign allows the Footscray community to show their financial support for Little Saigon traders in the lead up to Christmas.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Donations will be provided directly to affected traders. The funds will be desposited in an account managed by the Maribyrnong City Council until the proceeds are dispersed. A governance committee including representatives from the Maribyrnong City Council, the Footscray Asian Business Association, the Footscray Traders Association and Tim Watts MP will oversee the dispersal of the funds.

The Challenges

The needs of those affected by the Little Saigon Fire are varied and complex. This crowdfunding campaign will not solve all of these problems, but will simply provide some ex gratia financial assistance to traders holding leases within the affected premises.

Footscray Community Spirit

Donate to assist the Little Saigon Traders and feel good about living in a Footscray community that helps each other in times of need.
