#WildFoodMap is Google mapping overlay facilitating a community-driven wild food and medicine plant identification and social mapping services. We’ve set out to provide a platform to locate sources of free food and medicine plants (native or not) living in the landscape sharing locations and related knowledge through social media interaction.

Responding to ever-growing interest of the foodists, herbalists, survivalists, conservationists, new-age-ists, chefs, bartenders, caterers, farmers, gardeners, producers, schools, collectives, community groups, alternative medicine practitioners and sustainability advocates %23WildFoodMap will provide an online resource where people can engage by positively identifying wild plant species, learn about the plants uses and locate safe and clean gathering locations.



Why? We all know wild fennel is delicious with fish, dandelions make the best coffee, nettle is a super food, mallow is a digestive and plantain is a bush band-aid; BUT do we know where to collect them from the wild? #wildfoodmap will enable the collection, identification and conversations on wild food and medicine. Fostering connection, knowledge and appreciation of the wild resources around us all, with a few good recipes in the mix.

The idea for a Wild Food Map germinated between artist/naturalist Diego Bonetto and producer/conservationist Adrian O'Doherty. To give you an idea of the passion behind this project take 4 mins to watch Diego on Gardening Australia!

The Challenges

The biggest challenge is spreading the word educating the public on issues surrounding wild food and medicine, and foraging on public land!

Through this facility we empower people with knowledge, but we are also aware of misuses of the information.

We educate people fostering respect for private land, respect for the colonies of species and awareness about invasive and protected plants.

We cannot take responsibility for peoples actions but instead foster an aware community facilitating sound advice from a network of devoted and respected biologist, herbalist, gardeners, government representatives and wildcrafters.
