My name is Kathryn Jamieson and I am the head designer at Gun Shy.  This fashion label is bold, fun outrageous design.  An explosive innovative fashion label with its heart deep in ethical, local, sustainable & transparent fashion.

I am seeking funding to officially launch Gun Shy at VAMFF 2015 as part of “Perfect” in the Cultural Program and Offsite Runway Series.





Gun Shy is born from my wild creative time in Berlin with my label “Upside Out”.  This label gained international press for my innovative fashion shows.  I then honed and refined my skills at RMIT studying fashion where the emphasis was on wearable fashion.  In this course I won the Most Outstanding Student and had my collection shown at the Australian Graduate Fashion Week.  Finally I am here, ready to explode Gun Shy into the universe, which will be an exciting and innovative combination of all of these elements.

I will be producing x2 collections a year.  Each collection will have unique one- off items, as well as reproducible clothes at accessible prices for people to enjoy.  The early collections will focus on faux fur jackets, active wear and ready to wear.
However, once Gun Shy is rolling, it is my intention to collaborate with some of my favourite and innovative designers and artists to create one off unique collections and events.

I’m extremely passionate, excited and committed to Gun Shy and about exploding into the universe! Through this campaign I aim to get the funds for materials to launch the first “monster madness” collection. I also would love to use this campaign to gain funds to properly set up my fashion label. I am choosing to crowdfund through pozible because I see this as a great means to connect to supporters of Gun Shy and build ongoing relationships with them through the rewards and connections made. This is a win win situation for my business.







ETHICAL, LOCAL, SUSTAINABLE AND TRANSPARENT

All of my collections will be made ethically, locally, sustainably and fully transparent.  Currently I am not a member of Ethical Clothing Australia as the $300 annual fee is a little too much for my small business to cover.  However, this has not stopped me from implementing ethical concepts into my design.  Each item of clothes will have a Data Matrix printed and sewn into it so that wearers, even past the point of sale, will be able to scan and see the full supply chain of that item of clothing.



Gun Shy is also 100% committed to being created locally.  For this first collection the knitted ribbing for my jackets will be made by Boris down the road in his knitting factory; my digital printing will be done by Ben from Flockmaster;  the faux fur will be purchased from Fred from Bartfeld Textiles and zips from LZF.  All remaining fabrics will be bought locally and from different outlets.  These are just examples of the great people whom Gun Shy will be working with to produce innovative fun garments for everyone to enjoy.


MY INSPIRING ENVIRONMENT

Gun Shy is based in the amazingly creative area of Ovens St, Brunswick.   This surrounding area is a hub of warehouses jam packed full of all kinds of artists, manufacturers, lots of graffiti and eclectic people.   For those international supporters this area is like a little Berlin or back streets of Brooklyn.  Gun Shy in particular is situated in the Hope St Recordings Studio warehouse.
This is a studio of working artists which includes architects, landscape architects, costume designers, photographers, visual artists, jewelers, spfx sculptor and music recording technicians.   It is an amazingly inspiring environment to be in with other individuals all running their own businesses and working incredibly hard. A few of the artists are in the video and Gun Shy will be collaborating with the landscape architects early next year for climbing wall launches around Melbourne.  I mention this because being local and giving identity and a story to my design is important and this area is incredibly inspiring to me.

The funding will cover the costs required to launch Gun Shy at VAMFF 2015 producing a fashion collection & marketing elements.  The outline is above the $4500 I am seeking as I have included in this budget a few urgent “wish list” items.

These include:

Fabric – lycra, satin, faux fur - $1200
Printing - $800
Specialised Ribbing - $300
Trims - $300
Equipment – cotton, needles, paper - $300
Labels - $150
Professional website – design/web hosting - $800
Photoshoot/lookbook- photographer, make up artist, model fees - $600
Mannequins - male/female with legs - $1200
Ethical Clothing Australia membership - $300
Pozible’s commission for providing an awesome platform to launch - $250

TOTAL:  $6200

I would be incredibly beside myself if I get $4500 towards my label.  However, there are a lot of costs involved in starting up a small business and there is definitely potential for this campaign to raise more funds.  This would absolutely help me explode the label by allowing me to get more equipment (industrial iron & industrial coverstitch machine), do more printing, get to Tokyo post VAMFF to launch the label in the Asian market and just allow me to think and create even bigger than I am right now.
