Jumble (Vol I: Taste) is a rip publishing project. It’s an anthology of migrant memoirs in recipes from first, second and third generation migrants under the age of 35.

Jumble will feature recipes from 12 migrant writers that reflects their sense of cultural identity – with an accompanying short story or personal essay relating to that food

We think cross-cultural community engagement is important. To this end, we hope the book will:

Provide a platform for writers from a migrant background to communicate their experiences – using food as a vehicle for memory;

Allow other migrants to read about experiences similar to theirs and stimulate discussion with diasporic groups;

Act as a bridge for non-migrant readers in Australia and stimulate discussion between diasporic and other communities.

Provide insight into the many complex and multi-faceted Australian identities, and explore the multicultural nature of Australian culture.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Paying writers!

Printing copies of Jumble and creating an e-Book!

A launch event!

By helping Jumble get off the ground, you will be helping to get these important stories out there AND supporting independent publishing.

The Challenges

Independent publishing faces many challenges in this day and age. One of the many obstacles is getting people interested in reading and buying books in the first place. We're hoping the printed word isn't dead just yet (and no, 'rip' doesn't stand for 'rest in peace', in case you were wondering). Hopefully, by distributing digitally (e-Books) as well as physical copies, we'll have a bigger audience for the wonderful stories we've received.
