Abandoned, unwanted, sold for meat to abattoirs – help us rescue and rehabilitate horses in need, and give them a second chance at life!

ACT Animal Rescue (AAR) is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation that rescues dogs, cats and horses from certain death, and finds them loving and safe forever homes.

Since December 2014, AAR has been rescuing horses that are on their way to the ‘doggers’ where they will be killed for meat.
These horses are often young, unbroken, and abandoned for any number of reasons. Some have led happy lives as riding horses before somehow ending up at the sales, others are registered purebreds, or off-the-track thoroughbreds, who are just looking for their next chance to shine.
  

All of our horses have big, beautiful personalities and so much love to offer.

AAR does not receive any government funding, and very few donations. Our coordinators pay for all the feed, veterinary care and training for our animals out of their own pockets. This means thousands of dollars every year – a sacrifice they’re happy to make, if it means saving another life.



By donating to this fundraising campaign, you will help us pay for horse feeds for the next three months which will mean we can invest more funds into training for our gorgeous rescues. The more training they have, the sooner our horses will be suitable for adoption to the right, loving homes.

Critically, the sooner we can rehabilitate our current horses and find them forever homes, the more horses we can save. At the moment, our property is at capacity, and we have been unable to rescue any additional horses for the past several months. Your support will mean we can spend more time on our current rescues and increase the rate at which we can rescue more horses for rehabilitation.

The funds raised from this campaign will help us cover the cost of horse feeds for three months. This will mean that we can use the funds we currently spend on feeds on training our horses.

If we can pay for consistent training for our horses, we'll be able to rehome them faster and to loving, 'horsey' families! The sooner we can rehome our current rescues, the more horses we can save from the sales. 

Animal rescue is a challenging area of work, and we have a number of significant challenges to overcome. 

One of our biggest challenges is community awareness of this issue. The more people who know about the oversupply of horses in our community, and the fate that often awaits them, the more we can work as a community to address this issue and prevent more lives from being lost.

As well as awareness, funding is a huge challenge for AAR. Currently, we receive no funding, and our dedicated coordinators cover expenses themselves and we run our own fundraisers. The money raised through this campaign will help us plan for the coming months, and allocate our resources more effectively.
