Lake showcase at APAM
My name is Lisa Wilson and I’m the director/choreographer of Lisa Wilson Projects. My latest full length work Lake has recently been selected for a 25 minute showcase spot at the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) and we need your help!
This Pozible campaign is to help us re-mount the work for this incredibly exciting opportunity, in Brisbane next February. This market will give us international exposure, incredible national and international networking opportunities, critical feedback from international presenters and the very real prospect of our first overseas tour. The remount process will involve cast rehearsals with a new performer, re-editing of visuals and soundtrack for a showcase spot and the necessary technical support and insurances for working with large volumes of water.
APAM is Australia’s premier contemporary performing arts event, focused on increasing international and national touring opportunities for Australian contemporary performing arts groups and artists. To be selected for a showcase spot among the best of contemporary performance in Australia, is an honour.
"Bold in its vision and deeply evocative, Lisa Wilson’s Lake literally floods the entire performance area to grapple with our fascination and our fear of water.
Serene. Calm. Haunting. Menacing. This work reflects on the journey of a relationship, evoking its path from sparkling reflection to murky depths; from intense beauty to chilling isolation, to utter wilderness and our deepest sense of our selves within the world.
Lisa’s widely acclaimed debut independent production, Lake delivers stark captivating theatricality in what is acknowledged as a major new Australian dance theatre work".
Here is Lake on APAM’s website- http://performingartsmarket.com.au/program/details...

Lake was developed over a number of stages and a number of years and many, many funding applications. It has an incredible cast that I have listed below and has managed to capture the hearts and minds of many theatre goers over its short premiere season at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, where it will return in 2014 http://judithwrightcentre.com/event/lake
What some of our reviewers said from the premiere season in 2012-
“Incredible...I’ve never seen a dance piece like it....mesmerising”
Doug Kennedy , ABC Radio
“Wilson has broken new ground in Lake
Denise Richardson, Dance Australia
“Don’t think you need to be a dancer to appreciate this work. You just need to be human.
Xanthe Coward, XS Entertainment

As well as being shortlisted for an Australian Dance award this year, Lake was selected for Road Work, an initiative of the Australia Council for the Arts, toured by Performing Lines. This initiative, as well as other interest from Australian venues, will see Lake performed in 16 venues nationally in 2014. This has been an amazing achievement for us and the opportunity to re-visit this work is a gift.

We have an amazing co-producer in the Judith Wright Centre, who are already supporting us considerably with marketing and producing support, accommodation for the artists and a considerable amount of technical support for both APAM and continuing into the Road Work tour. It’s fair to say this work wouldn't be where it is today, without them. We also have the wealth of experience of Performing Lines who will look after our full re-mount for the national tour and have been wonderful consultant producers now, and into the future.

How The Funds Will Be Used
As we haven’t performed the work in over a year and a half and I will no longer be a performer, we need to bring in a (fabulous) new performer and rehearse with our original (fabulous) cast. We also need to edit our soundtrack into 25 minutes of highlights, and alter our Q-Lab cues and video projection, which gives the piece its stunning visuals .
We need to transport some very heavy pond liners and large wooden frames and even store some very large trees for a couple of days. To do all of this setting up and packing down of a large, reasonably complex set, we need technical support and manpower.
If we reach our target (fingers crossed) and manage to earn a little over, it will be put to very good use for marketing ourselves at APAM and providing the most professional image we can, to the world.
The Challenges
If the Pozible campaign falls short, we will work hard to raise as much private sponsorship as we can by other means, but ultimately I will have to invest in this work through my own limited resources.
The showcase will go ahead regardless and we will put on the best possible performance we can- but your support will make it that much stronger.
A huge thank you, hug and gratitude for being such a fabulous supporter of the arts! This reward will also apply to all other rewards that follow
