Our aim is to establish a high quality accredited farmers' market in central Eltham. The purpose is to support local growers and make good fresh local produce more readily available. We will initially operate twice a month with the hope of becoming weekly in the future.There are a myriad of benefits from such project: it will help local farmers to market their produce and encourage others with land to join them; it will help raise the awareness of our community about the importance of what they eat and lead to healthier food choices; it will provide a great opportunity for the community to gather and share their own produce and food stories (for example, we plan to incorporate a food swap); and it will provide a boost for other businesses in the vicinity by drawing crowds to town on an otherwise quiet day (Sunday).
How The Funds Will Be Used
The overall cost of establishing the market will be around $30,000. This includes promotion, marquees, tables, chairs, planter boxes, signs and promotion etc. We have a State Government grant available but need to supply some matching funding. We believe that we can achieve our goal with an extra $5,000 and are hoping that Pozible will contribute $3,000 or more.
