…So how did this idea all come about? Well, my background is
in graphics design and I spend a lot of time creating digital images including
3D models. With this, you’re always keeping an eye on what’s new in the design
world, and in this case – 3D printing. I’d seen what people were doing with 3D
printers and what people had been able to create, and I thought it was one of
the coolest things. As you do when you see something that tickles your fancy…
you tend to wish you had one…

A few years later on, while working part time in a pharmacy,
my father approached me and my fiancé with a new idea to start a business that
maybe one day I could take over and run for myself. Dad, being a business man,
I was interested to see what he had come up with. My ears pricked up when he
said we’re ‘gonna do 3D printing… of people…

I had seen what people had done overseas already. They were
scanning people to create a digital version of that person then they were
printing them out! Now, I had seen what people could do in photography with
people, and some of that was amazing. But to see someone recreated into a 3D
figurine – that was something special.

A couple of months later Clon3D was born. We had set up a small
booth in a shopping centre, and were scanning people ready for printing. We had
successfully started the first dedicated 3D Portrait service in Australia, and
that’s where we are now…
our funding will go toward being able to advertise more
effectively. Creating professional media releases, sponsored ads on social
media, more time in shopping centres and allow us to be exhibitors at
specialist events such as the EB Games Expo in October.

The equipment we have is the best in the business. And while
it is possible, carrying a 40 kilo computer around everywhere we go limits our
ability to be portable and flexible to clients needs.
With funding, we will be able to purchase equipment to make
us more efficient. Things like a laptop for greater portability and battery
packs to reduce the need for onsite power leads would make a huge difference.
We would also benefit greatly from being able to purchase equipment such as
specialist photographic lighting and backdrops to help capture even better
scans than we do already.

So far we’ve invested all of our available capital into
getting to the start line, but we’ve run out of cash to move the business
forward. There’s been a lot of interest (over 800 brochures taken during our
launch) but immediate sales have been modest as it’s the sort of thing people
think about for a while before committing to. One week in a pop-up shop in a
shopping centre certainly helped but we need greater exposure. While sales are
quiet, we can’t grow, and with something as cool as what we are doing, we want
to see it grow!

While we have access to state of the art printing facilities, we don’t own the printer. And the people who do run their own separate business, meaning there is currently potential for delays in print turnaround.
If we can reach our ultimate goal of $70,000, we will be able to purchase this printer for ourselves and get models printed for our customers in smaller batches and faster than ever before. It will also allow us to test different methods for creating even better looking models than what we get now.
So to summarise we are hoping to raise:
$5,000 (our initial funding target) – to purchase laptop, battery packs & professional lighting
$10,000 for above equipment plus balance for advertising/promotion
$20,000 for all the above plus costs to attend EB Games Expo (including exhibitor fees and stall set up).
$70,000 for all of the above plus purchase our own full colour 3D printer
Please help make it Pozible!
