'A Colossal Slice' is a short Australian comedy/drama film based on a true story. With the cast and crew all volunteering their time to bring this story to the big screen we need your support!

Set in a minimum security psychiatric asylum 'A Colossal Slice' tells the story of Ringo, a young man with social anxiety disorder. After a recent incident Ringo's jaw is sore and not working as it should. Unable to trust the nurses at the hospital Ringo turns to Earl, a delusional patient under the impression that he is in fact a doctor himself. After conducting his examination Earl comes to the conclusion that Ringo needs to try some of his very own alternative medicine. It's only when another patient asks Ringo how he in fact hurt his jaw does Ringo come clean and tell the jaw-dropping story of a colossal vanilla slice.

How The Funds Will Be Used

'A Colossal Slice' has been shot on 16mm analogue film, which look's amazing but unfortunately isn't cheap. Analogue film is being used less and less within films, especially student films due to the ease of digital formats, however the final product of digital doesn't begin to compare with film. The price of film and processing accounts for $1200 of the film's budget.

The film's location isn't cheap either. Shooting over 2 days will set us back $600, however the location is perfect for the script and will make a big difference to the final film.

Other costs include:
- Food for the volunteer cast and crew.
- Props
- Costumes
- Possible film festival submition fees

The Challenges

Although analogue film has many positives attributes a major negative one is the waiting. It takes roughly 2 weeks for the film to be processed in Sydney and then scanned to a digital format. 2 weeks is a long time to wait to see the footage. Questions like: Is the footage in focus? Has the film been loaded correctly? Has the film been exposed correctly? Do we have all the shots we need? are always in the back of your head. With a skilled crew however I'm confident that the film will return to us looking the way it should.

Niels Gabriels - Writer/Director
Zoe Sfetkidis - Producer
Aaron Garcia - Director of Photography
Trent Cliffe - Sound Recordist & Designer
Chris Mardiryan - Editor

Cast:
- Andrew Watts as Earl
- Callum Gault as Ringo
- Michael Rome as Frank
- Simon Huska as Jim

The other major challenge is the cost of filmmaking. The costs of production add up quickly making filmmaking surprisingly expensive and that's where we need your help.

We will be grateful for any donation, large or small.

Thanks for your support!
