At present there is no documented history of Umina.  This project would provide a long overdue resource for schools and libraries, the general community and visitors.  From my research the general public are very interested and keen to discover "their" local history, whether they are still living locally or around the world. For many elderly long-time residents, recognition of their lives and achievements is of paramount importance. For numerous photos and videos go to Facebook  Ocean Beach/ Umina History It is hoped to have the first screening of the video at Club Umina.  There would be a $5 entry fee which would be donated to the Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving.  The surf club have a $4000 grant from the federal government to help them build a small war memorial on the beach front.  The money collected at the screening would go towards this fund.

Funds will be used as follows.  I have a grant of $4,000 from Royal Australian Historical Society, and now need further funding to produce a quality DVD.

Everything for this project is in place except for the funds to pay for the production of the video. I have researched the history of Umina for the past four years, collecting over 300 photos and recording audio interviews.  The video producer has so far worked with me for more than 30 hours, recording video interviews with elderly local residents. We are ready to create a great DVD, to be released by the end of November. If I don't produce the DVD the grant from the Royal Australian Historical Society will be forfeited. It isn't due to be paid till next year, and only then on producing evidence of a product.
