Roll out the red carpet!  Very soon, theatre companies from across the state will be coming together to celebrate and honour their creative achievements from throughout 2014. And you are invited!
Tasmania has a vibrant performing arts scene. From the most lavish commercial productions to the smallest independent seasons. As audiences we enjoy a range of entertainment which delights, provokes, challenges and satisfies. Sometimes we are moved beyond our wildest expectations.
We think it is important to recognise, celebrate and reward those occasions. And that’s why we are staging the very first Tasmanian Theatre Awards on Saturday 28th February 2015.

There will be 30 awards presented across three categories:
1. Professional Theatre
2. Community Theatre, and
3. Community Musical Theatre.

Our goal is to keep our industry working well into the future. We need to maintain a solid foundation so that our performing artists continue to delight you, to entertain you and to make your life and our culture so much richer. That’s why we see The Errols as becoming a self-funded, annual and much-anticipated GALA event in the Tasmanian theatre calendar each year. An event everyone can look forward to.

The aim of this project is to raise funds to contribute to the start-up costs of hosting the event, which will be held on Saturday 28th February 2015. Awards patrons, Garry McDonald and Diane Craig (pictured below) invite you to help us!

WHO ARE WE
We are the peak body for the Tasmanian theatre sector. We support the development of Tasmanian theatre and the success of its practitioners locally, nationally and internationally. And, we represent the industry in Tasmania as a unified voice lobbying to government. We have three main goals:
1. Grow the profile of the sector through highlighting the importance of a strong theatre presence in Tasmania
2. Build audiences for the work
3. Foster skills development and opportunities for experience in its members Basically, we want theatre in Tasmania to thrive.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The $8000 raised will go towards meeting the actual cost of staging The Errols – both the day-to-day stuff as well as the big event on Saturday 28th February 2015. With the awards as an attention getting device, they will also provide the basis for the support the TCT gives to Tasmanian artists in a hundred different ways.   In its first year, we have a number of start-up costs that this campaign will help us with, including:
-Creation of the actual design for The Errol trophy
-Roll out of the red carpet for our amazing nominees
-Production and technical costs associated with creating an Awards night to remember!
-Marketing and communications in the lead up to and on the night of the event
-Administration support to get the event off the ground
-Allowing our judges to travel the length and breadth of Tasmania during the year-long period to see and assess all of the nominated shows
-Ongoing operation of the TCT as it builds on the momentum generated by Tassie's fabulous first Theatre Awards.

The Challenges

The theatre scene and its patrons are incredibly passionate people who are already helping us to achieve a successful night, like high-profile actor and director Robert Jarman who will be directing the Awards and our generous patrons Garry McDonald and Diane Craig who will be on hand to present the major awards!  The challenge for us though, is raising the funds and sponsorship to support the start-up so it can become a sustainable annual event that will play a central role for Tasmanian performing arts into the future. Another challenge is the amount of in-kind assistance and time availability of our volunteer organising committee members who already provide so much to keep the Tasmanian theatre industry and TCT alive.

To keep our industry working well into the future, we need to maintain a solid foundation so that our performing artists continue to delight you, to entertain you and to make your life so much richer. We simply can't imagine what our cultural life would be like without the performing arts - can you?!
