We are bringing the creative film idea of a budding young film maker to life...and we need your help!
Samadhi Schoell is an 11 and half year old inspired young actor/director, showing much potential and natural flair for the art of film making. With the support of his cinematographer father, family and community, we are making his film, The Journey To Spindrift. The project provides an amazing opportunity for Samadhi and his friends to make a 'real' film and to be able to watch the finished product in a cinema setting.
We need your support so we can shoot on cinema quality digital, fund the making of costumes for 20+ children, build sets and acquire props and sound gear, create realistic visual effects, and screen the film at the Cameo Cinema in Belgrave.
THE STORY SO FAR...
Inspired by The Hobbit book and movies, The Journey to Spindrift is a story about Elves, Dwarfs and Orcs set in Middle Earth. After two years in the creative realms of the imagination, the script and screenplay are now out of Samadhi's head and in a workable form. Children aged between 3 and 15 years make up the entire cast (and some of the crew).
Pre production is well and truly underway with kids making sets and props, choreographing battle scenes, experimenting with make up and mask making, designing costumes and hair styles, learning musical pieces and running through the script learning dialogue. The project contains abundant creative learning outcomes for all the children as well as experience in the craft of film making.
Mums and dads and friends are busy pulling together the crew, creating shooting schedules, launching the Pozible campaign and facebook page (check it out), making costumes, and overseeing the many logistics needed to bring the project together. It is fast becoming a community project.
Shooting commences mid April through to mid June with a screening due in September/October at Cameo Cinemas in Belgrave.

JOURNEY TO SPINDRIFT MAIN CAST
The Journey to Spindrift Synopsis
A royal Elven brother and sister and their kin are fleeing their palace during an Orc siege in the lands. During an attack on the palace they escape and begin their journey to Spindrift, a magically hidden sanctuary. The Elves get lost on their way and meet three Dwarfs who are also fleeing the war. Initially they too are enemies but agree to help each other after striking a deal. Unbeknown to them they are all being stalked by the head hunter of an Orc party. They pass through a dark forest and its perils, are saved by a strange wizard, and then face a final battle with the Orcs. The Elves and Dwarfs part ways at the gates of Spindrift, having formed a strong alliance. The Dwarf King has been avenged, and the Elven brother and sister have resolved their differences. A celebration feast at Spindrift marks the reunion of the Elves!

The Challenges
The challenges we see in the making of this project are a) having to reschedule shooting days due to illness of a main actor or unsuitable weather for outdoor scenes, thus lengthening the film making process, and b) the challenges of working with a cast of 20 children!! We are having mums and dads on location to assist with children wrangling and have spaced out shooting days to make them achievable for kids. Luckily most kids are experienced actors in previous productions.
