Be Awesome
is a social movement aimed at empowering people to feel and become more awesome.

We are a passionate team of volunteers and we are seeking your support to create the first pilot for the Be Awesome Festival.

We have a dream to empower the next generation with an awareness of their inner awesomeness and the tools to succeed authentically through the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.

We're creating the Be Awesome Festival pilot on Saturday 23 May 2015, and we need your support to make it happen!

The three guaranteed takeaways for our 8-10 year old participants in the Be Awesome Festival pilot are:

- Participants will walk away feeling amazing about themselves as they jump out of the festival space to meet a crowd of people gathered to celebrate their achievement of having faced and overcome three, high-energy physical challenges.

- Participants will develop a basic sense of self-awareness, knowing how to distinguish between “inside” (their own intuition, attitudes and feelings) and “outside” (the forces and influences of others.

- Participants will walk away embodying the message that in every moment they are always free to stop, choose and act.

We've identified growing evidence that today’s children are becoming less optimistic about their future, and that problems in adulthood are deeply connected to experiences in childhood. We want to play our part in tackling these problems by creating the Be Awesome Festival.

Imagine that you're back at school. You're eight years old and you've started the day with another typically boring maths class. You realise you have at least nine more years of this and your future feels dull and uncertain. As you gaze out the window, all of a sudden a giant, pimped-out bus with pumping music pulls up on your school oval.

Suddenly the bus magically unpacks to form the most mind-blowing structure you have ever seen. This is the Be Awesome Festival and this is the most memorable and empowering day of your entire school life!



The Be Awesome Festival is a day of full-on energy, excitement and play where children explore a network of physical challenges and magical spaces. Challenges are designed in a way to allow each child to experience a powerful life lesson that they can embody through physical experience for the rest of their life. This isn't therapy or a program of verbal instructions. It's simply one day of high-energy fun that hopes to ignite the spark of inherent confidence and self-love that we believe exists in each child.

The dream is in it's early stages and the Be Awesome team are currently creating the Be Awesome Festival pilot; a scaled version of the ultimate festival model set to take place in Brisbane on Saturday 23 May 2015. To set the framework for the pilot we asked over 100 people from Brisbane to respond to the following question:



Based on this question, the festival pilot will feature three high-energy experiential challenges designed to embody the top three lessons identified from our poll responses:


Our dream team has been working hard to develop these challenges with the support of a team of mentors (with experience in childhood education, psychology, theatre and the arts and business coaching).



We have a great group of 8-10 year old kids ready to go, the festival structures are being designed and soon to be constructed, our youth facilitators are being trained and rehearsing the challenges and we are all passionately ready to create the first Be Awesome Festival pilot!

How The Funds Will Be Used

We are seeking to raise $15,000 to fund the first pilot. We could have chased a grant or a big corporation but we truly want the Be Awesome Festival to be owned by the communities that we are trying to serve. We therefore believe in being completely open and transparent about where your money will go. Currently Be Awesome is made up of a team of volunteers, however should the pilot event be successful it is our aim to scale this model up to deliver two slightly larger festival pilots before the end of 2015 in partnership with schools in Brisbane and in Melbourne. It is our intention to then expand the program to Asia (starting in Singapore) and then eventually become global!

If we raise more than $15K from this campaign, any additional funds will be invested in commencing this process of scaling the festival up for the next set of pilots. We will be completely open and transparent about where this money goes, should this happen.

The Challenges

Working with children has a number of associated risks and from the beginning we have been conscious of ensuring the safety, privacy and security of the festival pilot participants. As a team we've undertaken regular "risk purges" at our team meet ups and we've compiled a register of all of the risks and challenges we can think of, with potential solutions. The main challenge we see in executing the pilot on the 23 May is securing a site (with a backup site in the event of wet weather). Currently we're in discussions with a number of central sites in Brisbane, however these discussions have been taking longer than we had hoped.

In the event for whatever reason, that the festival pilot is not ready to take place on the 23 May or we don't receive the necessary funding, we are committed to delivering the pilot regardless and we will communicate to everyone involved should we need to postpone the date. Whatever it takes, we will make it happen!
