Gap Medics was founded in 2005 by Director Dave Brown, whose vision was simple: To provide a specialist programme for premedical students to gain first hand experience within a hospital environment, in some of the most underprivileged locations in the world. Please support me in experiencing this life changing journey !

The programme running in Iringa, Tanzania offers an opportunity to work in the Iringa Regional Hospital in a range of different departments. I will be travelling to Tanzania for 18 days during the June/July midyear uni holidays to participate in the programme. Monday to Friday students learn in a hospital environment through shadowing medical professionals, observing surgeries and partaking in health tutorials. This kind of invaluable experience is extremely difficult to find in Australia, and will offer the best possible insight for me into medicine.

After the day is done at the hospital students go and visit the local orphanages, bringing gifts and offering a helping hand with the underprivileged children. The weekends provide an opportunity to explore the beautiful scenery travelling to nearby tropics or the safari, learning more about the culture of Eastern Africa.

What I wish to take away from this invaluable experience is working in a third world environment, engaging with people, particularly children, from a culture who are not in reach of the basic medical resources which we take for granted in Western society. I believe this experience will help open my eyes to the difference we can all make, when looking beyond the comfort of our everyday lives
About Me
I am 18 years old from Melbourne, Australia and currently studying Science pre-medicine at Monash University. Medicine is something I see myself being involved in professionally, and this experience will provide an excellent stepping stone. A big passion of mine is soccer, I play in the National Premier League with Oakleigh. This is something I really hope I can share with the children in Tanzania
Tanzania is a long way away from Melbourne, so the cost of travel is significant. Since graduating high school in 2014 I've been working hard towards saving for the Gap Medics programme, I have now payed for the placement itself, but now as I a full-time university student I need assistance with covering all of my costs ( flights, travel insurance, etc) .
cost breakdown:
- Return Airfare = quoted at $2300
- Travel Insurance= quoted at $150
- Tanzanian Visa= $100
All donations will go towards helping me get there and any money that i raise above the target will be distributed back into local communities in Iringa, making a difference in these peoples lives !
