Hi I’m EDDE or Eddie or Eddy or Ed or Weena or Ween or Edwina Masson or anything else you’d like to call me. I’m a singer songwriter currently based in Perth.

Although I’m currently living in Perth I was born in Brisbane and spent my formative years moving around the east coast of Australia, which included time spent in places like Melbourne and Tasmania.

I’m not your typical musician who knew from the time they could walk that there calling was to be a singer or a drummer or even wind-pipest etc. however, I did grow up constantly hearing music play, either in the car when we would go on weekend family drives, or through the record player my dad worshipped like the son he never had, or even the huge/overly ancient speakers my mum would have hooked up to her CD player in the living room.

For as long as I can recall I have been exposed to a huge variety of music which I’m grateful for, because I know it has had a lasting impact on me and my own writing.

My first endeavour into music came when I was 7 and took up piano lessons in a bid to be the next child prodigy, this however didn’t go quite to plan when I became aware of the fact that my hands were unusually small and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t stretch my fingers to even an octave. With my dreams of piano stardom shattered I moved on to the next instrument…which was the seemingly ‘obvious’ choice of the Oboe. With my excitement bordering on crazy you can imagine my hysterics when I opened the case of my new ‘oboe’ to instead be greeted by a clarinet……apparently they’d sent me the wrong instrument. Having always been a rather dramatic child I didn’t take this to well…however I then realised, that this was the single greatest thing to happen to me because my best friend also played the clarinet, which meant that not only would we have joint lessons but, we got to sit next to each other in band!! Now for a 9yr old child it didn’t get much better then this.

It was about this time that my family relocated to Perth where I continued to be a ‘boss’ on the clarinet (well that’s what I thought anyway) and then decided it would be a great idea to take up the double bass…..one of my more questionable decisions.

My first venture into singing didn’t begin until I was about 10 and I was the surprise winner at the yr5 lunch time student run Australian Idol….although I was only competing against one other girl I took my victory as a sign…’today the playground…tomorrow the world’. It was from this moment on that my musical priorities changed. Although I continued playing clarinet till I graduated high school, my relationship with the double bass became strained to say the least…and after I managed to accidently break the necks off two basses at once in the middle of a performance I hung up my bow and moved on.

With my eyes set on musical world domination I became obsessed with all things singing. I listened to everything I could get my hands on from the sweet sounds of Pattie Page to less soothing vocals of Etta James to the operatic diva that is Joan Sutherland. I was determined to be able to do everything, hit every high note, sing every vocal run, sing in 7 different languages (that last one I can’t quite do)….now in the beginning I will admit there were times when my family probably wished I’d take a long walk off a short pier. I would practice non-stop in my bedroom repeating every vocal lick or trill until I had it nailed. This persistence paid off however because in 2012 I was accepted into WAAPA (The western Australia academy of Performing Arts) to complete a bachelor of music in contemporary voice.

This is where you guys come in!!

I have always loved creating and writing my own music and at one time I thought I would create the first ever all vocal album….I quickly found out that THE Bobbi Mcferrin had beaten me to it....quite upsetting really haha. However that didn’t stop me and I continued writing and recording my own music until I got a point when I realised I wanted to actually hear It played and see it performed. So I started painstakingly writing out full charts for the amazinnnglllly talented 10 piece band I had put together. Yes 10 piece…and yes that’s a lot of parts to write out…and at times I wished I had been ok with having a smaller normal sized band, but, I’ve grown up listening to gospel music and big band jazz standards so I just had to have backing vocals and horns! Go big or go home!!! After a number of Sold Out performances at the Ellington Jazz Club I debuted some of my new originals and I received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the crowd, it was then I decided to record my EP.

For the past month or so, the entire band (myself included) have been in the studio. I am so thrilled with how my EP is sounding (PHAT HUGE GINORMOUS). I have been funding the entire project myself, which has meant me getting up at 5am most mornings to work both before and sometimes after university.

I am doing this Pozzible campaign to raise money to go towards the purchasing and packaging of 500 hard copies of my EP (I was originally only planning to release it digitally but after my first all originals gig completely sold out and I had numerous messages and emails from people asking for hard copies how could I not!!)

 Myself and the entire band have so many exciting opportunities presenting themselves in front of us right now and I personally feel so lucky to be surrounded by such supportive and kind people. Any donation that you give us is so appreciated!
