I'm Nath, I'm 29 years-old and live in New Zealand.  I'm a Trans* Guy and am raising money to help fund Female-to-Male Top Surgery that I'm having in August!  I've been transitioning out in the public world for about a year, my deep manly voice is squeaking thanks to Testosterone and I look like a 15 year old. And I love it. Transitioning is the most amazing experience, each day I feel more confident in myself and feel more able to be out in the world as myself.

Top Surgery is the medical procedure that will turn my female chest into a male chest. Female breast tissue is removed, nipples are re-sized to be smaller and then voila, flat-chest-pec-muscle-o-rama male shirtless reality!

Unfortunately Top Surgery is not covered or subsidised by public health in New Zealand and costs around $14,000. in the US, Thailand and Australia the price of surgery is substantially lower and often surgeons have had much more experience than surgeons here in New Zealand. After what feels like a lifetime of research I have decided to go to Bangkok to a surgeon that has been operating for 15 years and has performed over 2000 gender-corrective surgeries.

The surgeon is easy to communicate with, is very open to answering my millions of questions and follows the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care (WPATH). I feel very confident going with him and the process so far feels very safe. I have been in touch with a number of other Trans* guys from NZ and Australia who have travelled to Bangkok for their surgery, some who went to the surgeon I have chosen, and each one had a good experience. A good friend from Melbourne is coming with me, she is a nurse and is not squeamish - lucky!

The price of the surgery is $6,500 NZD and while I am not completely comfortable asking for help, I am needing some community support for the surgery so here I am crowdfunding on the internet. Please do not feel any pressure or obligation to donate – only do so if you can comfortably, all contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Top Surgery is the part of my transition that I have been heading towards with the most determination and is the part of my transition that I feel the clearest and most confident about. I have no doubts about the necessity of this surgery and of the magnitude of change it will bring to my life.

There are many many challenges involved with having Top Surgery but for me the two biggest challenges are money (at the moment) and my physical recovery (possibly post-surgery).  I think with support from friends and family I can tackle both issues :-)
