Director's Statement

Audiences enjoy horror films & everyone loves a good scare… to be drawn into a dark world of fantasy and fear from the safety of your home or cinema seat.

SINNER is the follow up to my recent successful horror short ‘ALISTAIR’.. www.alistairmovie.webs.com

With SINNER I want to deviate slightly from the supernatural elements that I explored with ALISTAIR and look at the depths human evil will go. The horror of what people are capable of when money, greed, lust and revenge are thrown into the melting pot. This story explores those depths of evil...the animal darkness and the violence capable within us all, the explosiveness of mankind’s repressed brutality and what consequences are involved when the line has been irreversibly crossed.

The film will have a bleakness to it and a pulsating undercurrent of violence and dread. SINNER will have those key horror elements of tension, brutality, suspense and creepiness…. and a little black humour.
It is very much a character driven piece and we have three wonderfully talented actors. The Internationally renowned Andy McPhee & Jai Koutrae along with superb Australian actress Holly Myers will bring these people to life. They will draw you in into these characters sordid world of lies, depravity, deceit and murder showing us that under certain circumstances we are all capable of committing appalling acts of violence and in some cases enjoying it.

Being a short film, my vision for it is to be like a segment you might find in an anthology horror film like ‘Creepshow’ or ‘Tales from the Crypt’ but with a harder edge.

I feel SINNER will standout from other shorts of the genre as it’s not all about gore and violence but about the journey these characters take, the desperation and tension that builds between them right up to the brutal conclusion. They have few redeeming qualities and they are not the ubiquitous teens seen in so many horror films but real everyday mature people from a relatively normal background which makes it believable and gives the story more grit. The script for SINNER was also a finalist in the prestigious horror film festival Shriekfest in Los Angeles.

We have an incredible cast and crew on board whose combined credits include Sons of Anarchy, Wolf Creek 1 & 2, Deadline Gallipoli, Anzac Girls, Terminus, The Bank, Shine, Red Dog, The Rover, Snowtown and 100 bloody acres. With all this talent, passion and commitment on board we are in for a hell of a ride and will bring you a terrific film.

The audience is to be left strained, brutalised, scared, stunned and exhausted .. To have seen a film that packs a hell of a punch and one that they won’t forget in a hurry.

You have to show violence the way it is. If you don’t show it realistically, then that’s immoral and harmful. If you don’t upset people, then that’s obscenity”
-Roman Polanski

You reap what you sow.
