Our vision is to supply solar power to the Ixgara Village Community Crèche at Morgan Bay in South Africa.

It is important that the crèche is able to be self sufficient, sustainable and energy efficient, especially when it comes to lighting, cooking and heating, as a supply of electricity is a problem for this remote community. This building will be the first of its kind in the area and we hope to use this as an example to educate the greater community on energy efficiency and sustainable living.

The children of Ixgara Village are currently attending crèche in the local community hall, which does not have any electricity or toilet facilities. This building is used for community meetings and as a result the teachers are unable to fully utilize the space to create a safe and permanent environment for the little ones. This hall is also directly opposite a busy beer hall, which results in the grounds being unsafe for children to enjoy as it is littered with broken glass and other rubbish.

                      

A group of concerned parents, local residents and teachers have found an alternative site for their dream crèche.
They are enthusiastic and willing to apply their own skills to the project. This is very much a project that provides people with the ideas and means to help themselves and their community.

                     
With your generous help, we will be able to realize our vision of supplying solar power to this wonderful crèche. The funds will go towards the installation of solar panels that will generate enough energy for the building to run efficiently. Any remaining funds will be used for building materials, indoor equipment and an effluent system.

We have already enlisted the help of leading international solar expert Professor van Dyk of Nelson Mandela University, who has offered to help with the design and installation of the solar panels.

   
The good news is that the community has raised enough money to have the plans drawn up and the foundations poured. Volunteers have already moved all of the children’s play ground equipment onto this new site.

                                                                 
Our challenge now is, with your help, to raise the A$5000.00 to implement the solar panels which will enable them to have enough electricity to run the lighting, cooking facilities and heating for the creche.
