I'm Glenn Skuthorpe, Nhunggabarra, Kooma, Muruwari man, singer songwriter and storyteller. My music has taken me from the campfire as a kid to stages around the world - from Goodooga to the Pilbara, Woodford to Calgary Folk Festivals, and many places in between.

Whether travelling the world or going back home, I like to write about my journey and the people I meet along the way, to give voice to the stories that must be heard, like shining a new light through an old window.

I’ve penned over 50 new songs that cover a lot of different genres, and one of them is Out West. I guess with Out West you could be west of anywhere, of Bourke or Melbourne, La Glace or Toronto. Everywhere I go, I want to capture where I’ve been. But no matter how far I roam from my home town of Goodooga, through the lyrics in Out West I am always home.

With this new album many of the songs run lyrically like a river through country, connecting the bush, the city and the ocean. Songs like Where is the Ocean and Out West, Down in Calgary and Bullrushes. This album feels different - lighter, exciting and so positive - like songs are flooding out of me and I just can’t wait to start recording them and to share this new album with you all.

When you do a gig, for that moment in time, people come on a journey with you. They buy your CD’s, then they’re gone - out of your life.

But through crowdfunding we can stay connected. You can be part of making my fifth album, from the start to the finish. This new album is going to be a product of all the people who are going to come on this journey with me.

I just can’t wait to make this happen. There’s all kinds of ways you can be involved. Have a look around this page and check out the rewards, how to donate and how to be part of this community - to make the album you want to hear.

This is how good music is made, at a grassroots level. So please stay tuned. We'll be putting up little clips of our progress as the days roll on and we'll add new rewards along the way.

The journey continues

Thanks for being part of this Journey. I guess I'll see you a little further down the road.

‘Glenn Skuthorpe’s music is like an out-of-heart experience, a sad-gentle wind that lifts you up, allows you to soar, to coast, to feel the power of the truth carry you along with honest lyrics and heavenly licks – knowing that when you return to your heart: everything will be different. The new album is a ride through country old and new, driving through the hills of hope, and down into the valley of justice.’  Peter Docker. Author: Sweet One, The Waterboys, & Someone Else’s Country.

'We all have 'our thing' that is our release from the hassles of life. I have two...running and music. Sometimes they go together and sometimes I am unable to run, but I can always listen to music. Even when I am not travelling anywhere, music can take me so far 'out west' that I can lose myself and be in a place of love, peace and harmony. We need our musicians and we need Glenn Skuthorpe music in our collection, on the radio, in our ears and on the stage. Glenn's lyrics and music are true to life, they take you on a real life journey, they are his stories, they are his world. Glenn's fifth and double album that he is working on is 'so far out west' it is going to be 'out of this world'....PLEASE support Glenn, let's travel the road with him, lets all head 'out west' with him, let's help him make music. ' Jo Weaver

'Good music and good wine are made for each other. Look forward to a night of bringing the two together. All the very best with getting the new album released.' Shawn and Briony, Laughing Jack Wines.

In the studio

I can't believe we're in the studio, and it's thanks to all the See My World supporters who got us here! So grateful. Seven days in and fourteen songs recorded.

How The Funds Will Be Used

To record a double album. The funds raised will pay for producer, musicians and mixing costs (fees and travel) and production costs (album artwork, printing and pressing) -

EXPENDITURE
$21,800 - Producer, musicians, mixing
$1,200 - Album mastering
$5,000 - Album artwork, printing and pressing
$28,000 - Total expenditure

The overall project budget is $28,000. I need to raise a minimum of $18,000, which will leave the project with $16,200 after we deduct costs.  Arts SA have generously provided $4,000 to the cost of mixing and mastering the album and I'm contributing my own money earned from gigs and workshops and getting my hands dirty in the garden to meet the shortfall of $7,800. The project team is donating significant time and resources - not only to project manage 'See My World' but also for film clip production, promotion, media, marketing and distribution to get the album out to you all.

INCOME
$16,200 - Pozible crowd funding campaign (after deducting costs)
$4,000 - Arts SA funding
$7,800 - Own funds
$28,000 - Total income

Why a double album? The songs have been flooding out of me. I now have more than 50 new songs. I’ve been listening to the songs and shortlisting with my producer, musos friends and family, and we’re in complete accord! Most of these songs can’t be separated - they belong together - each song a living part of the whole. And in thinking about it, at this point in my life, making a double album just makes so much sense.

Recently coming back together after a ten year break with long time friend Steve Francis who produced Out of the Darkness (2001) and Restless Souls (2004), we sat down in Steve's studio to lay down the Out West single. In that moment, I realised how important it is to work with a Producer that I respect and connect with, a man who I admire greatly and who understands my music.

And Chris Parkinson (The YearlingsMy Sweet Mule Production and Recording) who played on Out of the Darkness is on board! It'll be great to work with Parko again.

I really want to make this happen and I would love you all to be there with me from start to finish.

The Challenges

I really want to get my music out to you all. I love being on the road, connecting with my listeners and playing live. My project team and supporters also know what it means to me to be able to take my music beyond a live performance and into the studio to bring my songs to life, and let them live on.

Through crowdfunding, together we can make an album that we all connect with, that we are all part of, and we can continue on this journey together.

I am just so excited to have my project team on board. I know that they're the people who can bring the music to life in the studio and engage music-lovers who want to see this double album made and in their hands. The interest in this project is just so powerful and building everyday. And it's only early days.

I just can't wait to make this double album!
