I developed and designed “60 Tricks on Static Trapeze” Instructional Choreography Cards because I couldn't find them anywhere else! I knew my art, but didn’t have a curriculum, four years ago when I was asked to teach.
In order to be a good teacher I wanted a teaching reference and a library of tricks for static trapeze so I started searching. Book stores, circus suppliers, library systems, online and in the flesh, in Australia and over seas. I found the availability of reference books lacking. The ones I did find weren't comprehensive, they were written in French and only available in England! So I began to record what I knew and realised I had the information I was looking for inside me, I simply needed to get it onto paper and organised. 
I began by ordering from easy to hard 60 of the tricks I knew and asking a friend to take a picture of each. I then stuck this selection of tiny images on filing cards, simply as a teaching aid. The pressure my students put on me to take them home from my classes was rather grand! 
I reached out through my networks and found other teachers and students looking for the same sort of thing. Interest in my product crept out like the crack in my windscreen, opening my eyes to information hungry trapeze artists, teachers and students everywhere around me and abroad. 
So, driven by demand, I designed and printed 40 sets of postcard size images of my “60 Tricks”. Although this second set was still just one photo of the trick with no instructions, held together by an elastic band they were quickly gobbled up by the artists of W.A. The value of having images to shuffle around under the trapeze while ordering tricks for choreography was evident. This is the one set I have left...

I have created this third set bigger and better. They are now A5, with a clear image of the trick on the front, big enough to be seen from your trapeze, and clear instructions on the reverse as to the execution and exit of the trick.  During this process I compiled a huge amount of information for learning, teaching and performing dance on static trapeze, these cards are essentially the cream of a much larger pool of information, which down the track will morph into a manual to match these babies. This is one of my favourite tricks "Serana" seen here in my new card layout that will be a nice big A5.

I have been working hard teaching the curriculum based on my “60 Tricks” through dance schools and holiday programs to raise enough money to pay an amazing graphic designer, Lauren Trickett. Together we have captured a clear shot of each trick and organised diagrammatic and text instruction for the reverse of each card. So with this ready to go all that is left is the production costs. We’re printing 1000 sets of 60 cards.

This will be a specialised hub that caters to the ever growing local and travelling circus communities, a very exciting compliment to the dance and sport centres already pumping in our awesome town.

My biggest challenge left in this project is to raise the money for printing! I think the choice to go for 1000 sets of cards is quite ambitious. Getting 500 printed and packaged was not much cheaper. So since this is an all or nothing style of funding I am throwing it over to you guys, I believe the demand is out there and am waiting to be proven right! 
I am saving money by getting all of the cards sent hot off the press and straight to me (not collated) and the packaging sent flat packed. To fold 1000 trays and 1000 lids and sort 60,000 cards into sets will be a mighty challenge indeed! Thank goodness my family loves me (and chocolate, I think I’ll need a little more than pure love to keep them on board, did I include chocolate in the budget...?!).
