A LETTER FROM THE BELLE MINERS

Hi,

We're the Belle Miners and we're here to ask for your support for “Love, Nourish, Flourish”, a campaign to save endangered species through the replenishment of endangered woodland in Tasmania.

We are really excited to be helping  Greening Australia who are working hard to restore endangered habitat in the Tasmanian Midlands.

                                          WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION ACHIEVE?

A donation to Greening Australia is a legacy for long-term protection of the environment for people and animals.

Greening Australia's meticulously planned projects create maximum return for your donation - a dollar spent with Greening Australia will make a difference. The Midlands project will create hundreds of square kilometres of habitat, connecting two massive remnant forests.

So your contribution will:

              • SAVE THREATENED SPECIES such as Eastern-barred Bandicoots;
              • RESTORE RIVE health; and
              • CONDITION the landscape for future generations.

You’ll also be supporting a partnership to go on the road and tell this important story. The tour and CD will raise money and inspire new audiences to contribute to Greening Australia’s ground-breaking ... and 'ground-making' ... work!

We are privileged to be involved at the start of such a monumental project. As the video and information below explains, Greening Australia will restore 100,000 hectares of Tasmanian bushland - carefully planned habitat restoration is one of the biggest things anyone can contribute to the environment.

For your support we’ve set up a series of rewards that include the purchase of native plants, music and gifts. In addition we're pledging proceeds from music sales and performing fund-raisers.

Hopefully you’ll meet us at performances in Sydney, Melbourne or Tasmania in January. We'll send you updates as well as posting these on our website soon at http://belleminers.com.au and Facebook.

Thank you again for your support.

Love and best wishes,

Marina, Felicia & Jaime

How The Funds Will Be Used

____________________________________________________________________________

GREENING AUSTRALIA are proud to be running Tasmania’s most significant environmental restoration program. The Tasmanian Midlands Restoration Program project involves restoring and rebuilding native vegetation connectivity across the nationally recognised midlands biodiversity hotspot.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Tasmanian Midlands restoration siteThe program will create vegetation corridors and stepping stones to improve native habitat and make it easier for wildlife to move between sources of food and shelter. As the threat of climate change increases native animals and birds will rely even more on the ability to travel safely between habitats.

The low dry landscapes in the Midlands of Tasmania are predominantly privately owned and have been farmed for more than 200 years, so land owners are an integral part of the program.

UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS

Two University of Tasmanian research projects are embedded in the program to investigate the use of local native seed in a changing climate, and native marsupial, bird and bat movement patterns in fragmented landscapes. The results will help us improve future habitat restoration projects in the Tasmanian Midlands and beyond.

RIVER RESTORATION AT ROSS Ross river restoration in Tasmania

Our work in the Ross region is the biggest river landscape restoration project underway in Australia.

It's happening on a truly huge scale with over 100,000 trees being planted with the enthusiastic cooperation of local landowners like Julian von Bibra and Roderic O'Connor.

HOW WE PICKED OUR WILDLIFE CORRIDORS

The team picking wildlife corridorsWorking with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy, Bush Heritage Australia and the Department of Primary Industry, Parks, Water and Environment, we used a spatial modelling approach based on proven ecological principles to choose the best possible sites for our habitat corridors and stepping stones.

This was followed by discussion with landholders and infrastructure planners before final selections were made.

BUDGET
Crowd-sourcing costs are itemised as follows:
Revegetation donations to Greening Australia $4,000
Rewards (cost of your gifts) = $1,000
CD and music production rewards = $2,200
Campaign tour income  = $7,800*
TOTAL = $15,000

The campaign will also create marketing value for Greening Australia's Midlands Restoration Campaign to a million or more people - a saving of over $10,000 in media costs.

*The income of $7,800 contributes to a tour of the campaign across regional SE Australia. The tour will directly raise an additional $2,200 for Greening Australia in ticket and CD sales revenue. It will also generate further media and content value that will be used for revenue raising, through voluntary donations, specific fund-raising gigs and the possibility of another crowd-sourcing campaign in New Year 2016. The funding is a 'kick starter' that is expected to create many times more value than it costs. Your contribution is essential to creating these first steps. These are a significant process in the fund-raising strategy.
