WE ARE JONI IN THE MOON

We're a proudly independent band from Perth, Australia, gearing up to record and release our second album.

Joni Hogan - I am the lead songwriter and moon obsessed mama who sings and stuff.

Josh Hogan - Is my amazeballs brother, the sound designer/composer/percussionist/Ableton magician who produces, and arranges all my song babies into fully fledged (and hopefully well-adjusted) grown-up songs.

Tara 'Teradactyl' John - Is the spectacularly dressed sparkle-fingers queen of the keys and backing vox in our live band. T-Dac helps to arrange our piano-ey/Rhodes-ey/sparkle-fingery parts and she's also extremely talented at farts.

Steve Richter - Is our incrediballs live percussionist, and resident silly sausage.

Ofa Fotu - Is the ridic soul singer behind 'Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics'. She sings backing vocals for us live when she's not globetrotting around sharing her epic heart and voice with the rest of the world.

Xanthea O'Connor - Is our brilliant manager at Claphands. Aside from being a generally wonderful human everything, she's also a sometimes human statue (!?) and she'll be helping us out to get this whole shebang off the ground.

Because...

WE ARE MAKING AN ALBUM

Aside from our own personal compulsion to continue making our music, we're keen to share with our fans and the world, all the new music and visions we've been encouraged to get out there since releasing our first record Sorrow Trees in 2014.

Josh and I have been steadily working on writing, recording and producing a second album at Josh's Damaru Studio in Fremantle, WA, and have so far released its first single, 'War and Porn' in August this year:

In between wrangling our collective tribe of moonie children/families and other work commitments, we're looking forward to releasing a new single and music video for our song 'Tarantella' in November, 2015 too, before launching the whole album in April 2016.

The messages we share with the world through our music have become the central purpose behind this record.

Exploring themes like asylum seekers, the saturation of violence and sex in mainstream media, the commodification of women's sexuality, mental illness and its stigmas - the songs on this record will take you to some pretty raw personal and political places.

It is our greatest wish, to connect with and bring together like-minded humans whom, like us, care deeply about this world and one another and want to make this world a kinder place for ALL.

Our MACRO vision is to reach into your heart from ours with our music, so that we can commune together in our collective desire for change through music...

This is our ultimate dream and greater purpose, and why making this album with you and sharing this music with you feels so important, and so meaningful.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We want to give you the chance to be a part of this vision with us, by asking for your support in advance so that we can make the record that we want to make for you.

There is an epic amount of stuff and things involved in making a record happen...

Whilst we've maintained our independence and been self-funded up until this point, we need more money to be able to continue making the album for you in the way that we want:

- To be able to use the artist and designer that we want for its artwork

- To be able to record and produce the songs where we want, the way we want

- To be able to mix and master the record where we want, to the sparkle magic quality that we want

- To be able to give the record its best chance to reach other magical moonies out there in the world


In honour of your support, we've thunk and hearted pretty hard to pull some pretty weird and wonderful gift ideas out of our brains for you too. For example...

Homemade Banoffee pie.... made with genuine Joni lurve... delivered by Joni to your door.... mmmmm.... I think my tastebuds just ovulated.

And genuinely, any pledge from you to this project, however big or small, will be helping us to make it a reality - and will cement your own special place into its foundations, forever !

The thing is, our soulful connection to you - our audience and fans - has been one of the more precious gifts that comes from doing what we do, and we want to keep that up and keep sharing our hearts and music with you...

We are so grateful to have a chance to commune all of us magical humans together in this way, and involve you as an integral part of this album's creation and birth story. Imagine all the wonderful collective LOVE and INTENTION we'll be manifesting together!! Like... MAGICAL HOLY WOWSERS MCGEE!!

We are also deeply committed to involving all local and WA artists, creatives and businesses in the entire process of delivering this album to the you and the greater world beyond.

From cover artwork, photography, graphic design, pressing production, musicians and studios, to sound engineering and marketing, we are so proud that this will be a Western Australian project through and through...

As with 'Sorrow Trees' and 'War and Porn', we'll be working with our good friend and sound engineer, Lee Buddle (Justin Bieber, Katie Noonan, Kučka, Katy Steele, Gurrumul Yupupingu), to mix to tape and master the record on his magnificent SSL at Crank Recording.


Lee is frikken BRILLIANT at what he does, we trust him implicitly with our song babies and we know he will help us make them sound as RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING as they possibly can!!

BUDGET BREAKDOWN

- Production: Josh will be producing the album for us in his Damaru Studio, which will need $ for rent and running costs, production and musicians fees

- Mixing and mastering: Lee Buddle mix/master Boss Ninja at Crank Recording Studio (Katie Noonan, Kučka, Katy Steele, Gurrumul Yupupingu) - Lee is a PREMIUM engineer with RIDICULOUS GEAR and we would be pretty devo if we couldn't afford to have him mix and master

- Printing the CD: Our last album 'Sorrow Trees' was beautifully printed with custom foil and die-cut features and we would love the opportunity for you to have something similarly spectacular for this album

- Artwork and Graphic Design: We love making eye-lollies happen! It's always been an important part of how we share the music we make. So we've given a lot of heart and thought to hand-picking some amazeballs artists to make eye-lollies with/for us - Graphic Designer Gene Eaton from Inland Studio (who made magic with our Sorrow Trees CD packaging) and Artist/Illustrator Korrin Stoney whom we have chosen to create our custom cover art

- Marketing and Publicity: Good marketing and publicity for music is expensive though we want for this album to be heard by as many moonies as possible out there around the planet - to make the most of all of our efforts and have our greatest chance of fulfilling our MACRO vision!

BUDGET STRETCH GOALS

$8,000 - VINYL ALBUM

If the universe REALLY embraces this project and we get a little ways over our 6K goal, we will be able to release a limited edition pressing of the album on vinyl! All pledgers will have the chance to upgrade their pledge if this happens and the $ will go towards vinyl mastering and some stunning and specky pressing and packaging!

WORK/LIFE BALANCE

Our main challenge will be juggling all this creativity and music making with kids and work and family and doing the bloody dishes! BUT WE WILL FIND A WAY!!!
(I think I need a butler.)
