Let's finish what Nick started
Our beautiful friend Nick touched many people through his music, friendship, professional life and family.
Nick was a passionate Tasmanian living his his dream. Touring Europe, playing along side artists like Donavon Frankenreiter, and recording when ever time and funds allowed. Following his tragic death in 2014 due to stroke, his vast network of friends and fans have been keen to do something that celebrates his life and achievements, and create a legacy that Nick would be proud of. With the support of family and friends, we have created the Nick Balcombe Foundation that provides an annual grant for contemporary music in Tasmania.
But there is some other unfinished business...
Before Nick passed away he was working on an album. He wanted the album to feature some new material and also to rework some previous recordings that he wasn't happy with. He wanted the album to be the launch pad for the next stage of his music career.
We want to finish it.
And we need your help!
How The Funds Will Be Used
The idea is to gather up to eight musicians from the beloved isle of Tasmania (and a few of Nick's collaborators from further abroad) and throw them on a plane headed to Melbourne for recording of new instrumentals and back up vocals, and it would be great to put them up too!
Recording Studio 8 days - $7200
Eight days in the Sing Sing recording studio in Melbourne, Victoria, recording new music for unheard tracks as well as mixing up some of Nick's existing tracks.
Mixing 10 tracks - $8600, & Mastering album - $2500 - Mixed by world renown mixer/producer like Forrester Savell, an ARIA nominated and internationally renowned producer and mixer based here in Australia. Forrester has worked with Australian bands including Dead Letter Circus and Birds of Tokyo.
Forrester's Website
If we can raise more funds than the target of $15 000 then this will allow us to create something really special - perhaps some strings and other artists (but still keeping it raw in the Nicko style!), perhaps a vinyl LP release - let's wait and see
The Challenges
Availability of artists - discussions currently underway with range of artists and their availability
Studio availability - discussions currently underway to identify available space, alternatives identified on island and elsewhere in Australia if neccesary.
