Mechanophile is a short drama piece from writer-director Adam Willis that explores the concepts of love and family. Inspired by the weird and 'unnatural' relationships that people encounter around the world and the question of what really defines love?

Does love necessarily have to be between two human beings?

Love is a feeling that we don't work towards or force ourselves to create its a universal emotion that is thrust upon us and that comes naturally, sometimes in seemingly unnatural outlets.






Mechanophile is the story of abandonment, obsession and love that revolves around young family man, Travis, and his strange new addiction with a 1969 Crimson Pontiac. With his girlfriend Riley discovering this hidden love, Travis is forced to choose between his new obsession and his loving family.
We want to make a film that explores love in an unconventional and often negatively viewed way but create this beautifully romantic atmosphere around this idea that love can come in all shapes and sizes. Even a 1969 Pontiac!



 
We want a beautifully crafted style that will express the quirkiness of the story but enhance the emotional aspects of the film. We are firm believers that the cinematography can be used as one of the tools to tell it's own story about the characters. Like George Lucas once said, "You're telling a story using tools, not using tools to tell a story." We want to create an atmosphere for Mechanophile through it's unique style and ensure we capture the essence of what the film is really about. Love.

Meet The Team

Amazingly we already have a super talented crew in place and some ridiculously talented actors interested. We have also secured 90% of the camera and lighting equipment that we will need to make the magic happen.

The money will be used primarily on catering and production design for the main location of the house but also on renting  smaller locations for the film. The production design will be focused on to get the right look of the film and create a relatable environment for the audience. With the catering, it is important for us to keep the crew well-fed and happy on set to ensure everyone is working well together and there is a smooth production. Another important aspect the money will be going to will
be for a professional colourist to grade the film and give it a polished and professional look that will help us get our film into festivals.

With a solid script and vision the biggest potential challenge for Mechanophile is funding. As well as raising money through Pozible we are self funding many aspects for the production. We aim to spread the costs around so that we can have enough to cover every detail.

Making films is difficult, especially on such a tight budget. We have got a spectacular response to our casting calls, and we are confident we can find the very best actors for our short film, which means we, as the film-makers, need to step up to the plate to make the very best film we can! A lot of time and effort is going into art design for the film, and that is where most of the danger lies; if it's rushed or done poorly, the costumes, props and locations will run the risk of looking cheap and fake - something we obviously don't want. To get around this, we will be focusing on doing the best production design we can, and have hired an extremely talented production designer to help us achieve our spectacular vision!

Even after shooting, we have a long road ahead of us with post-production, and we would love to have a film that we are proud to submit to festivals like Tropfest, Sundance, or even Cannes! A lot of time will be going into post-production to make sure we have the most entertaining film we can possible make. We would like to get the visual effects and colour grade done professionally, to make sure they are of high quality and do the film justice.
