FLY GUARDIAN - drama not to forget
And there must be something in the script that attracted not only Dominika, but also Kristof, when he looked through it many years ago, and lIz Jones of Melbourne's La Mama who picked it for last year's Fringe Festival. Like all plays written by R. Figura, FLY GUARDIAN is also witty, on the border of the absurd, presenting the naked truth about human nature, with a plot linking to gangster films. It is full of allegories and makes the audience reflect on their own relationship with their families, friends as well as strangers.
And ... Exit Theatre likes to disturb.
And ... Exit Theatre likes the absurd and craziness.
And ... Exit Theatre likes plays with lots of subtexts and underlying questions, which probably is a consequence of Kristof being brought up in Poland in the 60s and 80s where everything carried a different meaning to what it seemed like. However, there was always a connection. Quirky, illogical, yet irresistible to discover.
JAM, FLIES, STALIN.....

And...... there is a pursuit of family, happiness, love and understanding.
And .....there is DRAMA
DRAMA NOT to FORGET - not only on stage
There is always a story....
Against all the odds the show must go on. Our story is a dramatic one - it is not only the hustle of auditions, finding the right cast and crew - it's also a matter of fighting with circumstances. We decided not to give up, as the play is worth it. Kristof's operation and his unexpected stay in hospital, and finally pulling out from THE MELBOURNE FRINGE ... you would lose hopes. And here is fantastic LIZ JONES and La Mama who never doubted in us. BIG THANKS to you for being a theatre, supporting the theatre and artists who really struggle these days:). And here is the story of FLY GUARDIAN

How The Funds Will Be Used
Thus, we need your help to cover the COSTS OF PRODUCTION so we can allocate the box office money towards our Artists and the Crew. We would love to reward them for their hard work for at least four weeks on the project. Theatre should not only be a passion done for fun, especially, when the artists and the crew have studied to get the right qualifications and skills. Every job should be rewarded. Unfortunately, it is difficult to pay artists when the costs exceed the profit.
................................
EXIT THEATRE has already covered the cost of INSURANCE & FRINGE FESTIVAL FEES. We are sending A BIG THANK YOU to Radoslaw for letting us produce his play and .... La Mama for their financial support to cover some of our PUBLICITY COSTS and MUSIC LICENCE FEE.
So what's left ........

MOST OF THE OTHER PRODUCTION COSTS
REHEARSAL SPACE COSTS (30%)
Exit Theatre has got a beautiful space to rehearse, but it's getting too small to move around (there is dancing and fighting, and guns on the stage). It is also situated toooo far from Melbourne, so we had to look for places in Melbourne area, and unfortunately there is a cost involved...
SET DESIGN (30%)
This play is not minimalistic. It requires specific furniture and objects. The place looks like a junk yard - we are lucky to have a rubbish collection coming soon, but it is not enough to create the space. Please, let's help KIM RITCHIE - our talented set designer - to create the space

PROPS (10%)
guns, jams, pots, pipes, flies, spiders & ... vodka - little stuff but it also needs funding
PUBLICITY (15%)
the biggest part of the production - even though most of publicity is done online, we still have to pay for promotional material, videos, photos to make sure we attract the attention of our potential audience
TRANSPORTATION ( 10%)
Exit Theatre is situated in the picturesque Yarra Valley - well, it's a long way to La Mama. We have to transport sets, props, flats - it requires a few round trips.
LIGHTING
La Mama provides most of the lights, yet we would love to give KRIS CHAINY (our lighting designer) a bit more creative freedom.
