I have submitted my application to take my Licentiate of Music (LMusA) exam with the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) in late June, 2016. The LMusA is a highly prestigious award and the highest award given by the AMEB. Along with performing extremely difficult repertoire in a 45 minute examination recital, I also must work extensively with an accompanist to ensure that the flute and piano parts blend perfectly. I would like to receive this award as a checkpoint on my way to traveling overseas to complete postgraduate studies in Flute and Orchestral Performance in the UK.

The repertoire I have chosen to prepare for the exam is:

Marin Marais - Selections from Les Folies d'Espagne for Solo Flute

Antonio Vivaldi - Concerto VI

Henri Busser - Andalucia

Eldin Burton - Sonatina

Jindrich Feld - Sonata (Movements 1 and 2)

I have decided to crowdfund because this past 6 months has been incredibly difficult financially due to financial hardships and illness in my family coupled with the fact that I moved from Perth, WA to Melbourne, VIC to study and moving away from all of my friends and family has been incredibly difficult on me emotionally.

Biography

Adam Richardson is an up-and-coming amateur orchestral flutist and piccoloist. Originally from Perth, he moved to Melbourne after participating in a summer school at Oxford. He made this move to pursue his musical dream of playing in a professional orchestra. Playing in his first orchestra in 2012, only a few years after starting the instrument, Adam has played with multiple orchestras across Western Australia and Victoria such as the University of Western Australia Symphony Orchestra, the West Australian Charity Orchestra, the Melbourne Youth Orchestra. He currently plays with the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra, Australian and Asian Orchestra and the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He particularly favours the piccolo for its beautiful tone and sparkling quality. After only starting playing the piccolo in 2012, he has managed to become a formidable piccolo player. He can be found playing piccolo in most of the orchestras that he does.
Adam plays on a 14kt Brannen-Cooper flute, and a Braun piccolo.

How The Funds Will Be Used

I have already saved up the cost of the actual exam itself which is $405. The remaining costs are to pay the accompanist for the rehearsal time and examination time. I will be working with David Laughton, a renowned Melbourne-based accompanist who has studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and obtained a Masters from Juilliard. He has also performed in some of the most amazing concert venues in the world, such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Concertgebouw.

The costs for his time are as follows:
4x 1 hour rehearsals - $400
1x 1 hour examination recital & 30 minute warm up - $200

I am aiming to raise the funds so that I can pay for the David's invaluable time.

The Challenges

If I can not raise the funds, I am going to have to take out a small loan for the payment and I really don't want to do that.
My extreme workload at university, in addition to my playing in the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and many of Melbourne's best amateur orchestras makes myself very unemployable as these past few years have proven for me. If I can achieve this goal and earn the award, it will make me much more competitive in the eyes of many employers looking for instrumental teachers.
