HERE'S OUR PROJECT!

The idea behind The Long Weekender was simply to bring a selection of the best Australian music talent together in Brisbane in a way that was fresh, exciting and inspiring to Brisbane audiences.

Here in Brisbane, we absolutely love Musica Viva and Medici Concerts and the tours from ASQ and ACO. But how about supporting fabulous musicians who are Australian and under 50? And those who are not permanent members of Australia's two main touring chamber ensembles or who are taking on interesting partnerships and projects outside of their positions? Why do Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide get to enjoy these brilliant and inspiring performances and partnerships and not Brisbane? And how about our heavily qualified and charismatic Brisbane musicians - how often do they get a chance to play outside of the universities in cool venues with a professional Steinway and, oh gosh, a fee that will cover more than the fuel and food to get to the gig?

Hence DeClassified Music.

The Long Weekender is the 2013 centre-piece for  DeClassified Music - a non profit organisation built on love :). It will feature three concerts on consecutive nights. On the Sunday we will host an afternoon of Masterclasses for students to interact with and play for the musicians - we will encourage bawdy behaviour and intellectual profundity.

A nine foot concert Steinway piano will be moved from Theme and Varitations into FireWorks Gallery for this event, offering the musicians and audience a unique musical experience.

For the musicians, the benefits include encouragement to be themselves and to choose their musical program freely, a professional environment and performance fee, and the opportunity to share their talent and knowledge with audiences in Brisbane. For the audiences we give them the opportunity to experience small ensemble music at its best with close access to amazing musicians in an intimate and trendy performing environment. Win win!

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

With support from Theme and Variations and Steinway (for the piano and tuning), FireWorks Gallery (venue), Huntington Estate Wines (beverages) and Queensland Music Festival 2013 (promotion) we are well on our way. Our administrators are working only for the love of music and Brisbane. Therefore, we only now need support for artist fees. It is our hope that with the help of Pozible we can raise at least $2500 to make The Long Weekender possible. This amount is the absolute minimum we need to have so as to get us over the line.... We need your help!!
