Mogli e Buoi dai Paesi Tuoi (literally translated to 'get your wives and your cows from your own village') or Marrying In is a play written by Tony Giurissevich that commemorates the experiences of Italian-Australian migrants and their families. The play is loosely based on the life of one of Tony's close friends, John Fisicaro who was struggling with the difficulty of upholding his parents' strong wishes for him to settle down and marry a ‘good’ Italian girl and his dreams to be a contemporary Australian and make his own decisions. As the Italian title suggests, John's parents' traditional mindframe was based on the belief that marrying outside of what you know and understand only invites problems. We, the children of Tony and John and other close friends, want to reproduce this play in the form of a short film to celebrate Italian-Australian migrant history and to commemorate our parents and grandparents for the opportunities they have given us. We plan to screen the film at the Norton Street Palace Cinema and also enter it into Tropfest 2014 and while most people involved are generously providing their time for free there are certain costs we need to cover and we ask you kindly to dig deep and pledge so that our project can truly be a success.
