ABOUT THE FILM:
After the unexpected death of his mother, a young football player, Julian Maxwell, finds himself struggling to support his depressed, unemployed father - while fighting to keep safe the secret he once shared with his mother. He's not only gay, but perform drag shows.
SHOWBOY is a film about family, loss and the exploration of freedom and sexuality in the face of affliction. Being produced with the assistance of Metro Screen and the guidance of Executive Producer Tristram Miall (Strictly Ballroom, Looking For Alibrandi), we're confident we're on track to produce a dynamic and deeply affecting short film - but we need your help!

ABOUT THE CAST:

LUCAS PITTAWAY:
Lucas was applauded in 2011 for his lead role in the critically acclaimed feature film SNOWTOWN. Since then he's starred in SPINE, winner of the Best Short Film award at the 2012 Melbourne Film Festival.

CINDY PASTEL
Cindy Pastel is a legend in her own right. The inspiration behind Hugo Weaving's character in PRISCILLA, Cindy has traveled the country with her shows for decades. She's excited to be starring in Showboy - and we're thrilled to have her!

ABOUT THE TEAM:

SAMUEL LEIGHTON-DORE (Writer/Director)
Samuel graduated from AFTRS in 2010 and has since directed music videos for the likes of Jessica Mauboy, Marina Prior and Sons of the East. In 2012 worked on films such as The Sapphires and Joel Edgerton's Felony while gaining experience across the Development and Marketing departments at Screen Australia. He's written for DNA Magazine and regularly contributes articles to Mia Freedman's Mamamia.com.au. SHOWBOY is Samuel's first short film.

DIANA BURNETT (Producer)
Diana spent 10 years in Los Angeles managing the Story and Editorial departments of feature films at Dreamworks and Sony Pictures. She was the music producer of Australian Idol and Australias Got Talent before joining Screen Australia's Development Department in 2010. SHOWBOY is Diana's first short film as producer.

THE MUSIC

A huge part of the magic of our film is the original music. We've currently written and produced an original swing/jazz song, SHOWTIME, which was recorded by Isabella Kearney-Nurse and produced by the reputable David Pritchard-Blunt. The song, which you can preview HERE, will be used for the film's big live performance scene.

WHY WE NEED YOU!
While we're excited to have the financial support of Metro Screen, we still need to raise a fair amount of money to bring our vision for SHOWBOY to life and fulfil the stories' huge potential. It's an ambitious short film that has already, and will continue to employ and support the talents of local emerging creatives. Your money will go directly towards the shooting and completion of this film, which includes our equipment hire, original soundtrack and the paying of all actors, crew-members and post-production costs.
