PAST TENSE is a playful journey into the life of a buttoned-down narrator who has just broken one very important rule. Hilarious and deranged, this romantic comedy is about letting go of the past and embracing an uncertain future. We mean 'embrace' in a very literal sense.

We here at PAST TENSE have been working tirelessly to bring you the best damn comedy the Sydney Fringe Festival has ever seen! So far we've been paying in blood, sweat, tears and the odd sexual favour. But our cavernous, wretched love tunnels can only take so much. That's why we need your help!

- $1 will buy Terry a condom so she doesn't catch some horrible sexually transmitted disease, like gonorrhoea, or pregnancy.
- $10 will buy Bee a pack of cigarettes to help her deal with people's shit.
- $20 will buy the Narrator a new tie, after having exposed his prized silk duck tie to an extremely indecent act.
- $30 will buy the Musician a new mouth organ. Not that kind of organ, you dirty bastard.
- Unfortunately, no amount of money will buy Rich a new brain. But we could buy him a new x-box, I guess.

We kid, we kid.

Honestly, we're a small production out of Sydney playing the Sydney Fringe Festival this year at The Reginald Theatre, Seymour Centre. We need your help to put on an amazing show. We're asking for $2000 to cover all our very basic costs. These include;

- Venue Hire ($1000)
- Tech Equipment Hire ($225)
- Set, Props & Costumes ($400)
- Insurance ($99)
- Festival Participation Fees ($275)

It's quite a costly affair and so far we've been busting our butts to cover it. $2000 is only the bare minimum of what we need, so if you're able to give us a bit more, we will reward you with a higher production value, including a painted set, awesome costumes, brilliant lighting, proper sound equipment & a beautiful overall experience. And love. Lots and lots of love.

This play was born from a desire to produce the kind of play we want to see on stage. Something hilarious, silly and thoughtful with great appeal to people from all walks of life. This is a play not just for theatre goers, but for everyone who has been given the short end of the stick and needs a good laugh.

The script has been in the works since mid-2012, when our writer/director Kara was trapped in working hell, all alone across the seas, far, far from home. The isolation drove her a bit batty, but out of it came a mad play about... well, isolation - feeling alone in the great big bad world. It's gone through months of rehearsals and workshops, and everyone on board is passionate about seeing this project succeed. With all the time, energy, love and passion thrown into this play, it has all the markings of a show destined for big and wonderful things.

A little bit about the Writer/Director...

Kara Eva Schlegl has directed, produced, acted in and promoted theatre since 2001. Her notable achievements include directing the well received & sold out Australian premier 'Hannah & Martin' by Kate Fodor (2010) for the Macquarie University Dramatic Arts Society (DRAMAC), directing the self-written short play 'Conversations with Dead People in Public Places' (2011) and producing the wonderful New Zealand comedy 'Chook Chook' by Fiona Farrel (2011). She has also worked in various film and TV production roles, including producer for the latest Polyphonic Spree music video alongside director Alex Gabbott and renowned comedy duo The Umbilical Brothers.

She holds a first class honours degree in English Literature & Performance, and is currently undertaking her PhD.
