UPDATE 01/09 at 10:35am: Target made!

Now we can go to print this arvo and distribute a magazine that has a cover that looks kind of exactly like this:

Thanks to you all. If you were any better than you are, you'd flip inside out because the physics of universe couldn't handle it.

—————————————————————————————————
UPDATE 27/08 at 3:55pm: This is what you'll miss out on if we don't make our target and can't print the issue/pay the contributors:

—————————————————————————————————
UPDATE 25/08 at 1:09pm: This is us doing the magazine making:

—————————————————————————————————
Over the ten days of the 2013 Melbourne Writers Festival, us knuckleheads at literary/arts/culture magazine THE LIFTED BROW will be producing issue 19 from scratch, on-site at the MWF Hub, for everyone to see. We need to cover the costs of doing something so idiotic and fun.

Holy smokes are we serious? Believe it, we are.

This MWF issue of the Brow is going to be one that will go down in history. If we can pull it off, that is! (By 'pull it off', we mean 'raise enough money to do the thing'.) We need your help to pull it off! We need your money to pull it off. Let's all pull it off together.

A truly independent publication, each and every issue of THE LIFTED BROW is created from the money it makes from its audience when they buy previous issues and come to events. This time around we're calling out to readers, friends and strangers-who-would-be-friends to help fund the issue while it’s being made, because this issue is going to cost way more to make than it usually would, because we are Reaching For The Stars.

Any and all money you pledge goes directly to paying the costs of producing this issue, including to the excellent contributors, who will be paid more than we can usually pay them, which will still be less than they deserve, the talented freaks.

What's the deadly equation, you ask? NO MONEY = NO ISSUE. Hence the pressure is on all round to make the target, or else we crawl away, ashamed, never to show our pale faces again. Please don't make us crawl.

This special issue will feature content that speaks to the themes, guests and physical locations of MWF 2013. Festivalgoers can pop in any time to the MWF Hub and see the TLB team hard at work – writing, editing, proofing and designing the issue. And anyone can get involved via the Pozible crowdfunding campaign. Your support means that you are a magazine maker too! You and us and everyone we know can be involved. We are one, we are many, and from all the cans of worth (i.e. your bank accounts) this issue will come.

The Challenges

This issue is a race against the clock. Two of them, actually. Two races against two different clocks. Can you hear the ticking? We can.

CLOCK ONE:
We have to make this issue, from scratch, on-site at the Melbourne Writers Festival, during the festival. The short turnaround means that deadlines will be tight, with content to be written, edited, proofed and designed for the issue in mere days. We are going to get it done! Or are we? Nah yeah, sure we are. But how sure? Help!

CLOCK TWO:
If we don't meet our Pozible target, we won't be able to print this special one-off issue, which means we won't be able to distribute it to our beloved readers. No one likes to distribute nothing — not Big Oil, not drug dealers, and definitely not us. It really would be the worst thing to ever happen if we couldn't print and share the writing and artwork we've commissioned. Trust us, it would be a c t u a l l y t h e w o r s t.

THE LIFTED BROW MWF Issue will be the best of times and it will be the blurst of times!

We'd be so so so sooooo very appreciative if you could throw some clams into our Pozible account. And you can feel warm and fuzzy in the knowledge that you helped it happen!

Also — be sure to pop by MWF to hurl some bananas at us at some stage! We're having a party on Wednesday 28th August at 7pm. All other days, we'll be the screaming monkeys behind the typewriter, making a magazine happen in a zoo of our own creation.
