On the 75th Anniversary of the Dalfram Dispute reenactments will capture the waterside dispute where 180 men prevented pig iron being loaded onto ships bound for the Japanese war machine.

Reports were making their way back of the brutalities carried out by the Japanese Imperial Army when Ted Roach, Branch Secretary, addressed the men at the labour pick up for the Dalfram. He told the men of the destination of the pig iron and the uses the Japanese would make of it: bombs - first against the Chinese and eventually against Australia. In protest, men walked off the ship declaring they refused to load pig iron for Japan to turn into weapons.

"Why support it?
With funding, historical reenactments will take place 75 years to the day on 15th November this year when men walked off the ship, commemorating principles rather than profits. The Dalfram Dispute show us what people united can achieve and the strength of the community which continues to define Wollongong today.

The Challenges

The biggest challenge is finding funds to film the reenactment of the Pig Iron walk-off by waterside workers. The risk is that without enough funds to tell this story, a significant piece of Australia's industrial history will be lost. The last of the men who were involved in the Dalfram dispute have passed away and time is running out. Help preserve our history.
