Building the GGSOF Men's Shed
The Challenges
* Timing of construction and Summer weather - it can get very hot on the Opal Fields over the Summer months, and many people leave the area until the temperatures cool down. A number of the contractors who have pledged support do live on the Fields full-time (and are thus acclimatised!), and work can be done in the cooler hours of the day. Much of the preparatory site work and shed foundations are already underway and will be completed before the temps get too high.
* DA approval - we are working closely with the Walgett Shire Council to ensure our shed & site plans are suitable, and that we have all the appropriate approvals/plans/environmental requirements met.
* Strength of our member work force - we do have 30 members currently, but we have the support and pledged assistance of the entire community, as well as Men's Shed established in the neighbouring towns of Walgett and Lightning Ridge.
A single "Opal Specimen" from the Grawin-Glengarry-Sheepyard Opal Fields will be provided for those who pledge between $25 and $50. Every specimen is unique, locally sourced, and beautiful! Specimens may be of any colour/s.
A couple of "Opal Specimens" from the Grawin-Glengarry-Sheepyard Opal Fields will be provided for those who pledge between $50 and $100. Every specimen is unique, locally sourced, and beautiful! Specimens may be of any colour/s.
A jar of Grawin-Glengarry-Sheepyard Opal Chips will be provided as a reward for those who pledge over $100. These jars will contain locally sourced solid opal chips, including a range of colours. No two jars are the same, and every single one contains a beautiful rainbow of colours.
