The Project Purpose

The purpose of this film is, first and foremost to entertain but to do so by, providing a glimpse of the unique circumstances that brought about a blending of the Vietnamese and Korean cultures, resulting in over thirty thousand children known as the Lai Dai Han being born in war torn Vietnam.

In this original script we take the universal theme of love and couple it with a cultural twist and then relocate it resulting in a family drama that leads across the globe from love, through loss and finally to reconciliation. A story of finding and accepting one's true cultural heritage within and embracing it proudly for the sake of future generations.

By showing the lasting effects that the war and prejudice have on families all over the world we aim to shed light on a single story allowing viewers from all cultures to empathize with both our characters and their particular situation as they each face their deep seeded need for harmony and acceptance.

The Project 'FORGET ME NOT'

The story is written by Korean script writer and director, Seewoo Kim with Damien Beebe as DoP. We plan to shoot in 2012 and intend to screen the film in major cinemas in NSW as well as overseas, in Vietnam and Korea. Showkhan has plans to make next project a commercial scale film.

Feature Film

‘FORGET ME NOT’ is a low budget feature film of a family drama involving multicultural elements, predominantly Vietnamese and Korean ethnicity. The story involves a Vietnamese-Korean daughter seeking out her natural father days before her wedding. Her determination awakes ghosts from the past of both families.

Synopsis:

This story is a family drama about Myung-Gon a Korean national who falls in love with a Vietnamese girl. His plans to marry are disrupted when he is suddenly called back to the USA during the Vietnam War. Faced with his family’s disapproval of a mixed marriage he is forced to marry Hyesook a good Korean girl. His Vietnamese wife Lihn is heartbroken but in order to give her daughter a better life accepts a marriage proposal from an Australian Vietnam Vet. Now on the opposite side of the world their daughter Hoa has grown up and is engaged and the only thing she can think about is how much she wants her father to walk her down the aisle. Hoa must find and confront Myung-Gon who she has never had a relationship with. The climax comes when Myung-Gon decides it is wrong for him to attend the wedding, even after he has traveled to Australia to do so. Myung-Gon finally faces the past and steps out of his comfort zone walking his daughter down the aisle.
