Buenos Aires, Argentina - Printmaking residency
HELP ME TO FINANCE A THREE-WEEK RESIDENCY IN ARGENTINA, a great opportunity for me to learn new techniques in a printmaking Art Centre
I'm a French Printmaking Artist living currently in Perth, Western Australia. I have been working full time as an artist and printmaking teacher for four years. I use a variety of printmaking techniques in my work, including Etching, Linocut, Screen printing and Collagraphy. I also teach these techniques to individuals and groups of children and adults.
What
I will be working on
In September 2012,
I'm planning to do a Residency for three weeks at Proyecto'Ace in
Buenos Aires, Argentina. This residency is an opportunity for me to
further investigate and develop my artwork, while gaining access to
new facilities and equipment. I will be exposed to printmaking
techniques I've never used before (photoetching &
photolithography, for instance) and I will have the guidance of
Master Printmakers to try my hand at them.
During the past
two years I've been steadily inspired by the architecture of big
cities such as Paris, New York, and Venice. For me, understanding the
architecture and exploring specific buildings of a city is a way to
approach human interactions. So, it's a manner for me to better
understand the world that I belong to and all that surrounds me. This
is why my art is mostly inspired by the social and the urban
environments.
Why Buenos Aires
As Buenos Aires is a big city characterized by its European style architecture and its rich cultural life, I would like to learn more about it through an artistic approach and with my artist's eyes. I'd like to use my time at ‘Ace Residency Centre to develop my body of work and study Buenos Aires buildings and its population's interactions. As the centre provides a high quality residency program, it will be a big opportunity to experience a collaborative work with the centre's team of experts and so develop my skills and my creativity while building a network in a friendly and professional environment.
A little about
Proyecto ‘Ace (http://www.proyectoace.org/):
From
2005, the Artist in Residence International Program (ARIP) is 'Ace’s
core program and the starting point of many of their activities and
projects. To be in residence at ‘Ace means to work collaboratively,
to receive technical and artistic assistance and to be immersed in a
vibrant city's cultural life. While in residence, the artists benefit
from intense production time enhanced by the exchange of ideas and
experiences with peers.
Artists-in-residence are selected by
their proposals submitted through an online open call. ‘Ace pays
special attention to projects that question the singularity of the
art object by using the reproducible capacity of traditional and/or
experimental printmaking techniques, photography, new media and/or
design, exploring their mutual interference and hybridizations, as
well as those proposals that attempt to make interventions in the
urban environment.
